This is an odd reaction to questioning IMO. (I realise that reporters can be apita).

I wonder how any of us would react under those circumstances. If he is innocent - which is looking more and more likely - imagine what he is gong through: an ordinary man going about his everyday life and suddenly his house is sesrched, he is questioned by police, hounded by reporters and practically branded 'monster of the year' on social media. It doesn't bear thinking about.

I just cant believe his name was published in the paper, what if he is innocent, he could be harmed of branded for ever, he has three grand children to look after, media frenzy

I can't remember the exact words of the headline on the front page of online news, when his name was published but it sort of inferred his name was officially released.
I posted the article for that reason, though I did think it strange. As normally police would say a man/woman has been arrested, and maybe later give their name.

TRADESMAN Bill Spedding was interviewed by Family and Community Services about his treatment of children just days before detectives began investigating him over the disappearance of little William Tyrell.
Three of the children who had been living with him and his wife have since been removed, The Daily Telegraph can reveal.
The mother of one of the children who had lived with the Speddings said she now wants the child back. “They should be home with me,” the mother, who cannot be identified, said.
Remember that this man is still "a person of interest". Apparently the only one at this stage.

is my understanding that the children were not removed by anyone, rather they were being cared for by friends, to keep them away from the public scrutiny and while the house was searched etc.
I call the daily telegraph out for their choice of wording................... "they can reveal" as well............... the family are making no secret of anything that I can see.

The article says that FACS was investigating him for his treatment of the children days before police honed in on him, and long before the media started their nonsense.
FACS would have gained some knowledge of something from the police.
I understand why the children were removed if it because of the publicity, but the article said "some" of the children were removed.

Family services (FAC?) were involved, according to news reports. One mother of a child in their care, requested that child be removed from the Speddings home... said she wanted him/her back.. child had not been in her care for a few years.
Which contradicts early reports that children in the Speddings care were grandchildren, unless the mother above is related to them or an ex DIL.

Earlier report from The Australian
**Colin Youngberry, a Vietnam veteran from Laurieton, says he has known Spedding for almost three decades
At the same time around 20 police in six vehicles descended on Spedding’s house in Bonny Hills, where he lives with his wife, Margaret, and three of her grandchildren, whom the couple care for.
They initially bought a unit, but sold that when they took on the guardianship of Margaret’s three grandchildren, and moved into larger rented premises to accommodate the boys, who came across from Wellington.
**Youngberry says he will not reveal the reasons why they were not living with their own parents but adds: “You can draw your own conclusions, it isn’t that hard.”
He says the Speddings worked extremely hard to give the three boys a stable and loving home and the couple were regulars at school events. The boys were very good at sport and each weekend was spent driving them to games.
This was the first real stability those kids have had, Youngberry claims, and all that is now in jeopardy. The children were this week taken away by Department of Community Services workers. Youngberry says they were staying with other relatives and that the kids were removed only to shield them from the intense media scrutiny.
I read a report quoting a daughter-in-law of his, and she said they were his grandchildren, he & his wife cared for.

The mother who wants her child back said she was informed by FACs in December it was investigating Mr Spedding but would not tell her why.
The same month Port Macquarie detectives tried to contact her, she said, adding that she was horrified when she saw news reports of police searching the Speddings’ home.
“I saw Bill Spedding on TV and I rang FACs,” the mother said.
The mother said her child was removed from her home by FACs because of a domestic situation. She has turned her house into a shrine to the lost child.
The child’s room is untouched and she has not taken the Christmas tree down since the child was removed early in 2011.
She and her new partner were surprised to learn Mr Spedding was a person of interest in the investigation into the missing toddler.
