schools are for educating not shaming.

i have no problem IF a school feels something in a kids lunchbox is poor food choice in that school comunicating with a parent/s to talk about it.

but sending nasty notes is outside their responsibility. its NOT their job to police the eating habits of the kids IMO.

But if schools ban everything that every child may be allergic to then our children will have very limited food choices.  Is it fair to expect all the children in your grandson's class to give up eating eggs?

Surely there comes a time when children with allergies have to be taught not to eat other children's food.  Perhaps the teachers should be policing whose food the children are eating rather than what is in that lunchbox.

Yes, I considered the 'allergy aspect' but that's not what the point of this story is.

I can totally understand the ban of certain foods due to certain allergies- and I would expect the parents of these kids to alert the school and teacher to know what these allergies are- and how to treat them, so that they can alert other parents etc..

In this case, however, it's about a parent being told in a passive aggressive way, involving the child, that the choice that they made- a chocolate slice- was from the 'Red Food category' and that they needed to choose a healthier option.

If the school wants to ban desserts or sweets, and this parent 'broke the rule' that's a different story again..but that's not what happened here either.
