Mainstream media - corporate connection, how deep is it? How wide spread is it?

As we know the media is responsible for people forming opinions of some people act on what the media tells them. Voting, who they associate with, what they put in their bodies, how they interact with friends etc., etc. are often due to what they read, see or hear. How much of a connection is there?

2 former PMs, Kevin Rudd, Malcolm Turnbull both foes of a sort worked together to highlight the monopoly on our media.

I think you need to look up the meaning of the word "random".  You are not using it properly.  Did you miss school that day when the word “random” was taught in Science or English?
