My grandma always used to add one scoop of tea leaves for every person and then "one for the pot"
She also used to turn the tea pot around. I think it was three times one way and then once the other?
Can't remember, wish I could though.
Don't know why she did these things either, they were just some of her little rituals and quirks I guess?
Anyone else have any special tea making quirks?
Or know why my grandma used to do those things?

Add one for the pot is traditional.
I never have, because the teas I like do not have coarse cut leaves.
the finer the tea leaf, the less you need, as there is more there in a spoonful.
swirling it isn't required, that must be a little ritual 🙂
heating the pot is a must, using water that has freshly boiled makes a difference, and I use a tea sock.
the leaves go into that, not the pot, so no need for a strainer.

diamond_halo, I do the same as your Grandmother. Can't for the life of me say why. Just have always done so.

I am particular about my tea.
Tea leaves have to be good quality.
Pot has to be warmed first.
Tea leaves before water.
One spoon for each plus one for the pot.
Hot water boiled in kettle to be allowed to cool for a minute before pouring in pot.
Tea leaves to sit for 2 minutes before pot is stirred and poured.

Best tea in Australia. Australian owned, Australian grown.
NERADA, Malanda, Queensland.
My daughter and I after having tea and scones at Nerada and a buy up of leaf tea. They process and blend lots of different varieties, and the place just smells delicious.

I buy Nerada Tea when I buy tea. I just don't drink tea very often so it lasts for way too long 😄
The supermarket only sells the standard pack so I usually keep a few small packs of twinings tea bags for variety.
None of them get used often enough.

I do like Twinings Orange Pekoe tea, and Earl Grey as a second choice.

My grandma always used Bushells tea leaves
It came in a paper package kind of like a pound of butter or the sugar packets and had blue writing on it.

Yep, same here. I'm a tea bag fan from way back 😄
