Some gamblers betting on the winner of The Masters go with golfers riding a hot streak. Some back lefthanders, or strong putters, or players who have survived the back-nine crucible.
And some ... well, some pick more insane reasons.
Meet Rob Price, a UK college professor who decided to bet £1,000 ($1800) on Rory McIlroy after he thought he saw the Northern Irish golfer's face in his Danish pastry. Yes, seriously. And if Rory wins at 11-1 odds, Price will win £11,000. Or enough to buy roughly 15,000 more tasty treats.
“It’s got to be a sign," Price said
.
"Rory’s face on a piece of food from his girlfriend’s (Caroline Wozniacki) home country. My mates have had a giggle and think I’m mad, but if I pocket £11,000, I’ll be the one laughing."
It's not the most ridiculous show of support, but given some of the surprise Major winners we've had over the last few years it's probably as good a way as any to pick a winner

Gee that brings back distant memories, icy. It was November 1965.I was feasting on a toasted English muffin for breakfast. There on the muffin was an image that resembled two pale fingers.
I hurried on down and put every penny I had on Light Fingers in the Melbourne cup.Oh it won alright, but when I got home I discovered someone had picked my pocket!!

I was at that cup meeting as a boy. i remember it clearly because my grandmother backed light fingers because she knew bart. she cleaned up. not that my family were punters or had any interest in the gallops. my mother was one of the ladies in the fashions on the field in the sun the next day .

I'll take a wager that Rob Price is a labor supporter 🙂
