March in March

Who is marching in March? I will be.

"March in March Australia 2014 will be three days of peaceful assemblies, non-partisan citizens' marches and rallies at Federal Parliament and around Australia to protest against government decisions that are against the common good of our nation"

There's just so much to protest about, but I think the thing that riles me the most is our governments dehumanising cruelty to refugees.

Or maybe the 800 million payment to Murdoch

Or the nepotism.

Or plain incompetency.

Anyway, I need ideas for my placard. Can anyone help?

I'll have to travel hundreds of kilometres to get to my nearest march, so I want to make it worthwhile.

Re: March in March

I like "stop abbott not the boats"

Hmmm no, I do want the boats to be stopped, but humanely. They could do that by processing in Indonesia.

AZ I am also too old but I feel strongly that this govt is ruining Australia's international reputation and is behaving callously towards the socially disadvantaged (Aussie and asylum seekers) whilst propping up their entitled friends. It's not right.

The last march I went on was for Iraq, but I've attended others since then as a passive observer. I did chain myself to a shipping container when the nuclear ship was coming to Darwin, but the cops used bolt cutters lol. I might have looked brave but I was cringing quite a bit when we threw the padlock keys into the ocean lol

I'm too old for that kind of protest, but I'll definitely have a placard and chant something ๐Ÿ˜„

Hi Deb ๐Ÿ™‚ didnt see you here.

My kid was threatened with expulsion from his school when they found out I'd taken him to an anti war rally...his school supports wars and stuff. Now he's older, he's coming too...but I suspect he'll march with the young folk. I'll be puffing at the back, from waving my placard and chanting ๐Ÿ˜„

I can't think what to put in my placard that won't get me arrested for foul language lol

Re: March in March

A large group of my friends are getting a really wide banner made for the Sydney march on the Sunday. It starts IN hamarket but not sure where the march marches to. I'll certainly be there for the speeches.

In terms of what to put on a banner, take your pick from a long list of issues!

Re: March in March

That's the problem...there are so many issues, how to express my outrage in a three word slogan. Perhaps I should call tony ๐Ÿ˜„

Our kids school is the opposite - they are encouraged to take a stand and are allowed time off school in Year 10 onwards with parents permission.

Re: March in March

The best anti Abbott slogan appeared in a lane in Newtown a couple of weeks after the election. It managed to stay up a few weeks before it was painted over.

The message was simple and to the point. It said:

F... Y... Tony.

Every time I drove past I'd say to my kids "There isn't much more that you would need to add to that."

Re: March in March

I think if you can't find a slogan that doesn't include a foul word, you shouldn't have one.

I don't see the need for it and for me, it would have no impact in a positive manner.
