0.50 price shutters had a stall at a local shopping centre. I stopped as I'm looking for a couple of plantation shutters for the extension.
Gave my details to get someone to come out to do a quote. My details were given and then was asked if I was single when I said there won't be both of us home when the quote is done. Don't think I'll even bother getting them out.

They don't want people to say they need to discuss it with the partner, then use the quote as a tool to get better prices.
Yes, that is their reasoning. They also don't want time wasters.. ie: one partner may fancy some new shutters or a new kitchen and want a quote without even asking their partner first. Then when they do ask the partner they say No,not this month/year etc.
I don't agree with it though, you give quotes in the hope of getting new work, can't expect 100% of them to turn into jwork.

Does a cooling off period apply if you are inviting them to your home and then sign a contract.

I saw a thread awhile back about this practise on another forum. From what I gather they pitch to the husbands. I always find that amusing when they do in shops, they pitch to my husband and he duly nods and asks questions and then he says "well it's up to the boss" and turns to me.

Be careful, especially if this is a company that starts with M
Never give your home number unless you want to be plagued with calls for other products.
read my lengthy review dated March 18, 2013.

these companies that seem to have an American pushy sales pitch often seen to ask for the husband's approval.
I have had that before with a kitchen company that quoted.
