Mass Shooting in Las Vegas

First reports show over 50 dead and hundreds injured.  Witness say the shooter used an automatic weapon........the NRA says, "Guns don't kill people, people kill people"...........well I find that a little simplistic........would have been hard of a knife wielder to kill that many people.

According to authorities the shooter is dead, they're looking for his girlfriend now.

The gun cockroaches are going to come out of the woodwork now, claiming that if someone had been armed, they could have stopped the shooter......bulldust.  No doubt any one armed  (and there were sure to be at least several in that big a concert) were busy filling their knickers.

Prayers and condolences to the victims.

Re: Mass Shooting in Las Vegas

if there were machine guns 'out there' in criminals hands i rekon some twit would have used one and so we would know about it.

the only rapid fire type weapon ive heard of recently is the shot gun they are trying to get legalised.

i'm guessing the gun guy from the USA is making it up, too bad he wasnt asked his source.

Actually that bit of infamy is often trotted out by gun fondlers........and whenever I see it, I attempt to correct it.

Re: Mass Shooting in Las Vegas

I think that's the second time you've used the term "gun fondlers" in this thread and I'm curious to know just how it is defined. What is a gun fondler?

How does someone who admittedly sleeps with a gun well within fondling range (i.e under you bed) define this term?

I'm a bit confused by the relationship Americans seem to have with their guns. It seems like a sort of love-hate relationship. Americans love their guns and hate to be separated from them, even to the extent of taking them for rides in their cars and sharing their sleeping quarters with them?

So, what is a gun fondler and how many guns does one need to own and in what circumstances, before one has the term applied to oneself?

Re: Mass Shooting in Las Vegas

A gun fondler is (my description) an individual who would rather buy yet another weapon than clothes and food for his/her kids. Every time a gun control bill is mentioned, they run out and buy another weapon. They have enough ammunition stockpiled to equip a division, quite a bit of which is well past its use-by date. They're the ones who insist on taking a weapon to Mc Donalds or Applebee's.  Here's a good example...

And another.... http://www.oregonlive.com/pacific-northwest-news/index.ssf/2013/02/bend_woman_accidentally_shoots.ht...

Now, what's the likelihood of them defending the patrons of that restaurant?  More than likely they'd be cowering behind a booth, filling their skivvies. Who needs a 30 round magazine to hunt deer?

I have no problem with a citizen owning a personal weapon for home defense or for defending themselves in a carjacking.......but the weapons pictured above would put a round not only through an outside wall, but through the neighbor's........whereas a 20 gauge, will spread the #4 shot down a hallway, without taking out the neighbor, his kids, or his dog.

I must admit, I also own a .58 caliber Zouve, a .36 Navy Colt (which I used to foil a potential robbery at the service station I worked at), and two .44 caliber handguns, an Army Colt and a New Model Army Remington, all of which have had their percussion nipples stored away.

Oh, and heaven forfend, I have a long knife, pictured above, which my daughter recently used to cut her wedding cake.

If you have any more questions, just ask.

Re: Mass Shooting in Las Vegas

But how many of the members of that audience took out their guns and tried to protect themselves?

How did their right to bear arms actually protect them?

And how many people involved in these slaughters in the USA actually have the opportunity to use the arms that they are so fond of carrying?

....is nonsensical.   (sorry mate xxj)

They are not purchasing these (usually small /medium sized hand guns) to shoot at terrorists!  Its for 1:1 confrontation, and usually within the perimeters of their own home. Self defence in their own home to protect their family and themselves. And I agree with that.

And hopefully, they NEVER have the need to use it.

Perhap your average citizen is buying a .380 or 9mm for home defense, but if so, why are they wearing them on their belts at Walmart, at McDonalds, at the mall?

I mean who do they have to defend themselves from, little kids with signs, an over-zealous waiter, a pushy fellow shopper?  By the way, every one of the weapons displayed in the photos would go through an opponent (in a home defense scenario), through the wall behind him, and through the neighbor's wall. Sometimes simply carrying can lead to an escalation of violence. http://wnep.com/2017/08/18/woman-sentenced-for-shooting-during-pizza-fight/

As far as confronting shooters, an armed individual in Portland hid behind a column, didn't fire a shot.......at Umpqua Community College,  a carrier explained his inaction:  He was concerned that police would view him as a “bad guy” and target him, so he quickly retreated into the classroom.
