Mass killer safer in Iraq than at home.

A former US Navy SEAL sniper who was responsible for 160 kills during his career has been shot and killed at a Texas gun range.

Chris Kyle, who wrote a book called American Sniper about his military service from 1999 to 2009, was found dead at the Rough Creek Lodge shooting range on Saturday, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, quoting Erath County sheriff Tommy Bryant.

A second man, named as Chad Littlefield, was also killed.

A third man, identified as 25-year-old Eddie Ray Routh, has been charged with two counts of murder.

Local police said both victims had been shot at close range.

Live by the sword die by the sword were my first thoughts too until I read this part of the story.

"It was just two great guys with Chad and Chris trying to help out a veteran in need and making time out of their day to help him. And to give him a hand. And unfortunately this thing happened."

"Chris died doing what he filled his heart with passion - serving soldiers struggling with the fight to overcome PTSD," Mr Cox said in the release. "He will be forever missed."

Reminds me of a shooting by the US SWAT team in 1996

http://crime.about.com/b/2006/10/02/florida-cop-killer-shot-68-times.htm

The SWAT team expended 110 bullets to shoot 1 man 68 Times -  (62% accuracy rate - and these guys are supposed to be the best?)

When asked why they shot him 68 times, their response was "we would have shot him more, but we ran out of bullets" (sic).

As for the OP, not sure "sorrow" is the right word, but I take my hat off and am extremely grateful to any person prepared to put their life on the line so that I can sleep safely in my bed each night.

Presumedly, those 160 kills he did make, were in the line of duty, so I can't see why he would deserve to be killed more than any other person iykwim.

 IMO, he's not a killer, he's a protector.

Some people can go their whole lives and never really live for a single minute.

yes hawk. then they go back into civilian life and so many cant function properly, the rate of homelessness among vets there is very high. the US military seem to neglect veterans in a big way.
