my car VZ Commodore has started with a click-click-click when I try to start it.... it does it 2 or 3 times ... eventually starts after I bless it a few times .... but I'm worried that eventually it won't ..... so, starter motor? solenoid?
This had to happen when every mechanic for miles around is on 2-weeks holiday.

The pressure can only come from the system with the motor running..

They said that they were testing for leaks - evidently some sort of pump affair??

Rabbit-the mechanics were doing a cooling system pressure test-
this pumps air into the coolng system and shows any weakness and leaks in it.
But keep going back to that workshop-they will point you out
and say----here comes the milking cow again.lol.....................Richo.

what would you suggest I do? They have my car in bits.

Rabbit-before i retired -could have got you one for about $140.00.
Expect to pay about $220.00-as i have mentioned in past posts
Dont forget a new radiator cap-dosnt come with a new radiator.

he has quoted me 'about $370' - for the radiator.
'about $160' for the pump and 'about 1.5 -2 hours to fit. Is he having a go at me?

Remember the starting problem? Well, that's been going OK - so far.
I have had an overheating problem a couple of times. Intermittently, temp guage will go right up - and I mean RIGHT UP and just as quickly it will come down again after a minute or so. I had it in to have checked through along with the starting problem - they couldn't find anything wrong - it wouldn't overheat.
Yesterday , it happened again - luckily I was only 300 metres from mechanics. Left it there. Today they put in a new water pump - all going well - until they pressurized the system - and the tank on the radiator blew. Now can't get a new radiator until Monday.
I am not even sure WHY the radiator should have blown - it's only 18 months old? Maybe the apprentice (who they had doing the pump) put TOO MUCH pressure into the system.
I am beginning to think that they fix one problem and cause another (deliberately or accidentally) to keep themselves in work.
a unusual raise in temp and then returning to normally is most likely to be a sticking thermostat, most often occuring from a cold start.
If the water pump was faulty it would run hot all the time, ubn less it was replaced because it had signs of leaking it most likely didnt need replacing.
The header tank may have been ready to let go and a test under full preasure finished it off, just bad luck
and have seen this string of events occur a few times on cars where its one thing after the next for a while
