If you don't have an A/C like me please post your handy tips for staying cool. ๐
The evening before:
Fill up the icetrays and freeze plastic bottles of water.
Cut up lots of fruit like mangoes and watermelon and leave in the fridge. You won't feel like cooking tomorrow.
Fill up a spray bottle and keep in the fridge.
Close all curtains and blinds before you go to bed.
The day:
Laze around on the sofa and don't use the stove or the oven.
Drink lots of cool water with ice.
When the house starts heating up turn the fans on and place those frozen bottles of water you prepared earlier in a shallow tray in front of the fan.
Wipe down your pets with a cool wash cloth.
Place icecubes in their water bowls.
Place a large damp towel on the floor in front of the fans for your pets to lay on.
Wet a wash cloth/bandana and place that around your neck.
Have lukewarm showers or sit in a lukewarm bath. Wet your hair and if long put it up.
Evening:
If the temp drops open all the doors and windows. Put a linen or pure cotton bed sheet in the fridge for a couple of hours. Put an icepak on your pillow and move fan into the bedroom and place frozen bottles of water on a shallow tray in front of the fan and direct it on your bed. Place cold sheet on your bed. Jump in the shower and go to bed naked and wet.

Most of around where our house is green still, but there is alot of bush around our house as well.
Its suprising how 'green' trees will burn in a bushfire, especially eucalypts.
Stay safe purple, I'm sure you don't need me or anyone else about bushfire safety. ๐

I noticed how dry it is today as I was driving into the City.
Just hope we don't have any major fires.
Good tips Cat ๐ will be putting out some extra buckets with water for the birds.

Yes those living in the bush please take extra care. If the bushland has dried out anything like our Melbourne parks already then it's already very dry.
They're saying right now on the tv that Victoria will face its worst
bushfire conditions since Black Saturday. Don't mean to sound pessimistic and it may be ok, heartfelt hope that it is.

I hesitated to tell OH this afternoon, but there was a fire near the township where his mother lives. all under control now I believe. He's giving her a call tonight to check on her all the same

A lot of the bushland around us hasnt dried out a lot, we had some rain in the last week, we get rain that the suburbs dont. The council has been really busy too in the last couple of months clearing away bush from the sides of the roads and on the walking tracks, something they didnt do in previous yrs.
I just hope the weathermen are wrong. We had to leave in the 2009 fires, dont want to do it again.
We had all the trees taken out that were around our house, but there are plenty down the back of our block.

It also wouldn't hurt to put some containers of water out for wildlife in some shade.
A sign of an animal in heat distress is lethargy and acting like they are drunk.
Very important tip I'd forgotten to add! I'll be filling up my bird bath tonight.
Friday 41c and squalls. ๐

I was stuck in my town for 4 days during those fires. Never ever want to go through what I saw that week again
