Just heard this on TV. Owner said he thought it was a light hearted idea. I didn't catch it all but I think he said it wasn't handed out at the dinner.

Joe Hockey is not a child, he had 3 months to determine what he should eat from his plate. Looking at the set menu would not change what was on it (his plate) Nobody would have insisted he eat everything on his plate.

I'm not convinced though that the owner would have taken a pay off - for starters, would the politicians be that stupid, because they know that eventually it would come out and if it ever got discovered it would be mayhem

Exactly - his reputation and that of his business and others associated with it have taken a hit. If he were innocent, why would he do that? Why would he take the blame for something in which he was completely innocent and risk destroying a family legacy in the meantime? Have a look at all of his business and company holdings - how much money do you think it would take to offset the cost of the possible damage to that? How would anyone making a pay off hide that kind of transaction and keep it free from scrutiny.

If he defended his innocence, he, his business' or his reputation would not take a hit at all.

He's a bloke - he made a rude joke that was allegedly intended to be private, he is no different from many other men. The hysteria surrounding this is just bizarre. We have seen far worse from women right here on CS. Women referring to other women as "ankles". Women using the c word.

Yes, his joke was distasteful and the disrespect shown for our PM is abysmal - but in context it was just a smutty joke no different and certainly a lot tamer than many other men AND women have told and laughed about.

Actually taking a leaf out of the believers manual leads me to believe that the OP title. and the truth are:

My GUESS is that if he had any special dietary requirements that either he or a representative would have informed the function organizers who would have created a pre approved menu for him. Just like a vegetarian or glucose intolerant person may do when dining out.

This was a set menu for a function. They would not have had carte blanche on the a la carte menu.

So maybe, he didn't read the menu because he had no need to - maybe he already knew what he would be getting. Maybe he didn't want to read it because he didn't want to be reminded of what he was missing out on.

Luvvies are well known for their base humour but this is really sick. Also that tweet the sacked employee who emailed the menu to Gillard said some pretty awful stuff about abbott as well.

I think the tut tut brigade only come out when Gillard cops a home truth.
