The enclosure that I have for my cats was mostly built by prior tenant.

He used that white laserlite carp. Who in their right mind does that anyway. It is like an oven out there.

The question:

Would it be better to run shadecloth over the top or attach it underneath.041.JPG

I had a carpy laundry like that - stinking hot!

I put shadecloth underneath.   Outside, it would get ripped to shreds

by the wind,  and flap around making 'orrible noises and scare the kittehs

Definitely underneath so there is still proper drainage on top.

I have taken half the shadecloth off the eastern end and built an extension with poles and arc mesh. There was no air flow before that.

The prior guys cats must have been really uncomfortable in the summer.

cm, I would still look at providing some other cover.  Like screwing some

MDF sheets or something up there.  The shadecloth will only protect them

from diect sunlight, but the heat will still be bad with all that laserlite.

What about a canopy? Heavy duty canvas material covering part of it (could be removed in winter). Would that keep the heat out?
