So I might make a migration down south....
not sure if I can handle the cold... not sure if I can get use to big city life again... but it might be worth a try...
What areas are nice down the coast and what are rental prices like??
NSW seems like a nice choice.. have a few freinds I would like to be able to meet up with on a regular basis for coffee and chats... what are the outer suburban rental prices like?

Rents are high and rental properties in short supply (due to high demand) anywhere within a 2 -3 hour radius of Sydney. Of course, they are high in Sydney itself as well.
$450 p.w. for a basic 3 brm house where I live.. hard to get one. lots of applicants.
Wouldn't you be best to try and get a job first and then move to where ever that is? You seem to waiver a bit.. from saying where you live now is the best place ever etc, then saying you want to move.

@jean2579 wrote:Cat, if you don't want to go right down south to Sydney, have a look at Coffs Harbour..
Quite a large area on the ocean super large shopping centres and great climate, it really only gets cold for about 6 weeks of the year, rest of the time it is temperate. It's only 1 hour by plane from Sydney and about the same to Brisbane. Added bonus it has a LNP Member.
That looks pretty good... some nice national parks around too.

It is a geat place... perfect to retire... but I am 30 years away from that.
I only moved here to raise my kids... now is a good time to start to think about what to do in the future. My mum is also considering a move away so I would have no one here. I think if I go then she will move for sure.
I will move into an apartment if possible... no lawns, no garden... no hassle...
I would not go unless I had job first for sure, never leave the one you have until you have one to go to.

Cat, I noticed that you said you have a young Son. If he has an interest in Tourism there are a large number of motels and several large 4 star resorts both in Coffs and surrounding areas. There is also a University if he is interested.

Check out Allhomes as they have their NSW listed in the areas. Hit on the Rent tag at the top and it gives the weekly rents and mostly has pic of the houses.

I can see your point there. I feel the same where I live (although I have way less than 30 yrs away from retiring).

lol.. he has Aspergers... working in tourism would be a nightmare to him.. we have heaps of tourism things up here when the industry picks up and there is no way he would even consider it.
the uni is a very good point as I think he will end up doing something like engineering.
