Freddie, I walk my dogs most days but it more a stop, sniff, lift the leg ( the dogs, not me lol ) stroll, not the same as a good brisk walk.
Good morning lurker, I love fresh fish, flathead, bream etc, dont seem much of it down here, only the WW garbage which I wont buy. It you want to grow some veggies, my suggestion is to just start out small, a bit at a time, you wont regret it.

Well, went to edit a post, got sidetracked and then ran out of time and with a "magic spell" it all disappeared. Not even in my 'drafts'
It was a masterpiece of the written word, too.
Oh, good morning to all.

For those who like plums ..... Veggie garden day today, need to pull out the rest of the snow peas that have finished, remove the old bed frame they were growing on and take it up the back to support the plum tree branches. Also have a whole pile of lettuce, cue and cabbage seeds to plant in the new garden up the back. Yesterday I ripped out the last of the sweet peas from the front lattice, was sad to see them go but I have saved heaps of seed pods, hopefully they will grow.

No, IMHO fresh juicy plums beat stewed plums anyday !
Which has got me thinking, I haven't eaten Rhubarb for years !

I'm similar Aps, with all fruits, much prefer eaten fresh.
Not too keen on jams or preserves (except marmalades) . Don't mind dried apricots; or apples in Strudel/cakes. Got me thinking now......I love prunes.
Of course, if there is a bumper crop, one has to "preserve". I hate waste.
A former neighbour used to have a "drier" for their tomatoes.
Rhubarb........Yuk yuk yuk. Liked the custard more.

Preserve
I wonder how many people have the skill to preserve fruit like they did in the old days.
I can still remember my mother and grand mother cooking and preserving fruit.

Well is was the end of the gardening, so onto plan B, whatever that is ..... Spent about 40 mins outside, then then wind came up, the clouds got dark and now it is pouring rain, so watch out those over in the east, it could be heading your way.
I love fresh plums, dont mind them stewed either, Mr B doesn't eat fresh fruit, but he loves plum sauce so I might make a bottle or 2 of that and maybe a jar or 2 of jam, depends on how many plums we get. The nectarine tree is also full of fruit, not so keen on these, so swaps will be done with the fruit. I freeze more than preserve, all the romas will be turned into either soup or sauce and frozen ready for winter. The celery will going into casseroles and then frozen. The excess cabbage, cues, lettuce etc will be swapped for fresh eggs or jars of pickles, jam etc. The excess leaves etc go to my friends' chooks, nothing gets wasted here at all.
A friend gave me some rhubarb once, I stewed, added heaps of sugar and it was so bitter, dont think I would bother again.
