I like the way the flowers grow in clusters, but mine is past it's prime atm

That's a beauty you've got there Debra.
I was forgetting about the "olden days roses" prior to grafting. But I think some of the new types of roses are grafted onto rootstock such as those wonderful old vigorous growers.
I remember a "Black Boy" climber at our old farm in the 50's but "thorny as the devil" pa used to say, just googled and note that the flowers shown aren't nearly as dark as those we had - it was very very deep crimson almost black.
I'd give it a try, if you can get a rooted section of the rose without harming the parent plant. I wonder if layering it would produce a new plant?

Good morning all .......
I do love and appreciate this thread so very much, thank you xxx
Wish I could stay a little bit longer, but the "platoon" is on the way, was supposed to only be one person but that has changed to 11, oh my, just as well I did most of the work I wanted to last night .... They're threatening to bring salads and vanilla slices ....
.......
.... trouble is, then we all sit round yapping together and eating it, but we will get lots of quilting done at the same time (won't we????).
Have a wonderful day everyone. All those lovely pictures of flowers here; really makes my day, not to mention sends me rushing off to the nursery to see if I can see/find/buy some when I can!

I have a black boy
I HAD a beautiful black boy in my rock garden bed many years ago, I sent my pre teen adventurous son to do the edges armed with the whipper snipper he decided the black boy needed a hair cut.
It died a slow death, I was so annoyed. every opportunity that arises I remind him about my poor black boy.
