Im so upset. I dont know what to do.
Have been working on this bathroom for a year.
I took this photo a month ago. Things in place but water not connected
Have had a few plumber problems but they have been fixed.
Today plumber was here connecting final pipes for the vanity. He did it and called me to see. We were standing in front of the vanity when there was a BOOOOM and the glass top exploded.
Plumber says "Oh dont know why that would have happened. Oh well, it was installed. Maybe you can claim it on insurance"
I dont know what to do. Im in shock and in tears.
Hubby bought this vanity 5 years ago. I know theres no way we can replace it.
And now im gonna have to pay a plumbers bill of fitting this vanity and then also to fit a new one

That is identical to the one we had in our Brisbane unit - one in another unit exploded like that and I am pretty sure it was covered by insurance.

How odd that it happen when the plumber was there connecting pipes....
I dont know what you can do, I wouldnt be paying the plumber though till you find out if he had anything to do with it.
I know nothing about connecting pipes to vanities, I am sure someone will come along soon that knows.

There must be a reason why they explode.

Are you OK?
It must have made an awful noise smashing.Take a couple of deep breaths...Glass can shatter due to applied pressure.
Do you have building insurance? The thing is,who installed the vanity itself- you, a builder or the plumber?
If it was the plumber, there is no way I would be paying for the installation.I think it is his insurance company that needs to be contacted.

I suspect the plumber tightened the connections between top of the vanity and the underside a bit too tight.
Which is what he would normally do but glass vanity tops needs a little more cushioning.
I'd say he created a hairline crack (or there may have been one before hand) so it was just a case of running the hot taps or turning the taps on or some other vibration and then the whole thing would have collapsed.
You CAN get new glass tops for these things. Try Reece bathroom supplies.

Im ok. Was very shaken and just struck dumb at the time.
The plumber installed it.
Yes we have insurance. Ive just rang them and they are going to send someone round to have a look.
The plumber was very blase about it all. No way was he gonna acceptt any responsibilty.
I now thinking he will hit us up for installing this one and then we are also gonna have to bu a new one and get it installed.

I think this as well. He had tightened the pipes then ran hot water through it only 10 minutes before

I'd be suing someone...at the very least NOT paying their bill.

Good to read you are OK.
Also,happy that you have Insurance.
I think your Insurance company will deal with the plumber and/or his Insurance company. Hold onto the bill for now..
I dont think I would be giving more work to this same plumber, with his attitude.
Good Luck.
