Im so upset. I dont know what to do.
Have been working on this bathroom for a year.
I took this photo a month ago. Things in place but water not connected
Have had a few plumber problems but they have been fixed.
Today plumber was here connecting final pipes for the vanity. He did it and called me to see. We were standing in front of the vanity when there was a BOOOOM and the glass top exploded.
Plumber says "Oh dont know why that would have happened. Oh well, it was installed. Maybe you can claim it on insurance"
I dont know what to do. Im in shock and in tears.
Hubby bought this vanity 5 years ago. I know theres no way we can replace it.
And now im gonna have to pay a plumbers bill of fitting this vanity and then also to fit a new one

Glad you're okay !!
I wonder if these glass basins are made in the same place as the glass outside tables ?? They have been exploding, too.

It was a fitting problem, read the fitting instructions and I would assume there will be reference to the tightness / torque settings of all the fittings
there should be a maximum torque either in inch pounds, newton meters or good ol foot pound's ....
I would ask if the plumber used the torque wrench to check the fittings, or even if he has one !
unless he can prove otherwise tell him to use HIS insurance to make the claim because of not following the manufacturers fitting procedure
if he doesn't have personal or company insurance tell him you'll see him at the small claims tribunal...

I bet you have skid marks

It'll be covered by insurance I'm sure.... but you do need to let the company know it happened... for two reasons.
1) so they don't sell any more
2) so they can recompense you.
What a dreadful thing to happen and such a shock too 😞

It is a shame, your bathroom looks lovely. However, google exploding blue glass vanity before you decide to replace it with the same.

That's pretty scary. I've heard of the same thing happening with glass topped outdoor tables too. I wanted to replace my wooden one but changed my mind after hearing about exploding tables.

Is the vanity made in China?
Bought some drink glasses from china and they slowly exploded one by one over the space of a month..
I have started to notice the vast amount of flatpack bathroom vanity's and tops/basins coming into the country while local makers close up shop.
The flatpack cabinets are below quality and allot feature problems such as the assembled not square as well as low quality painting that would result in steam entering the MDF and the doors cracking.
Basin tops that are hollow and low quality ceramic. I dropped a small jar of tea tree oil froma height of 20 cm on mine and it went straight through it.

BTW-sorry to see that happened, there is nothing worse than working hard to finish something in your house and have a problem like this happen.

Tempered glass, while being strong and with a high thermal resistance has to be carefully fitted so that there are no external stresses applied in situ. Additionally extra care must be taken to avoid scratching/nicking the surface.
I would think it more than likely the plumber, in connecting the pipe(s) stressed the glass., it would only take a pipe seating to vary a degree or two from the plane of the fitting surface and you will have a stress failure in the offing.

Wow. I have not an iota of doubt that it is linked to the plumber over tightening the connections. But it will be a challenge to prove it.
