More Labor FAILURES

It is frightening to think how many billions of dollars we are set to lose from Rudd’s thought-bubble:

Labor’s centrepiece infrastructure project, the national broadband network, will miss its June 2014 rollout target by more than a quarter of a ..., as construction delays and problems with subcontractors continue.

Leaked internal forecasts seen by The Australian Financial Review indicate NBN Co now expects to have 855,935 existing homes and businesses ready to connect to the fibre network by June 2014. This is 273,065 fewer than the company forecast it would reach in the latest corporate plan, released in August last year.

NBN Co revealed last month it had reached 163,500 homes and businesses with fibre at the end of June 2013. This was 57 per cent fewer than it had forecast in its corporate plan.

We have an aging society, perhaps they should allow 10 year olds to vote as they are the ones that will be thankful for the NBN

Does the Liberal Party even consider the future with their policies? If so, please name them Nero because as far as I can see is they have this 'it won't happen to me' mentality.

They are against the Carbon Tax, the Mining Tax, then NBN

They just do the opposite and are so negative with EVERYTHING

Interest rates, unemployment, even our credit rating.

It's just unbelievable that any thinking person will buy it and trust them.

But Lakey sweetie this is a story from The Australian Financial Review a FAIRFAX owned paper and FAIRFAX is a totally left wing labor supporting media organisation.

So you are saying that Fairfax and the AFR are wrong are you lakey sweetie?

I am sure that David Ramli and James Hutchinson the story writers from the AFR would love to hear your knowledgeable well informed opinion Lakey Sweetie

Would you like me to pass your name onto them Lakey Sweetie  so they can ask you for your opinion and rebuttal to their well researched story?

the difference in the ALP version and the LNP version is the LNP version is left unfinished and leaves regional and rural people out.

for urban users its potential is trashed by the last metres of copper turnbull wants to leave in.. and the nature strip fridges .. don't forget the fridges ..

I wish you well LL in attempting to discover some/any  meaningful figures apropos the NBN rollout. Here are some comments from Delimiter, Jan 2013

"if you believe NBN Co, which I broadly do), the top-line figures do not look good when taken out of their context. Since late 2007, when the then-Rudd Labor administration took power and kicked off its initial NBN policy (which subsequently failed and became the current, much broader policy in April 2009), the Government has only successfully deployed fixed broadband infrastructure to some 72,400 premises. It’s only connected some 10,400 premises for active use."

"This revision to the definitions (in order to make it easier for NBN to meet its targets) is in addition to having changed the way it counts houses passed in greenfields areas – it now counts ‘lots passed’ regardless of whether there are any premises constructed ready to take a service on the lot or not,”

And another "NBN Co stipulated in its statement that it was using what it described as “the accepted industry definition of ‘Premises Passed’”, consisting of premises passed by an active telecommunciations network. However, the company also noted that this measure included “those complex premises” that would receive services over the NBN outside of “standard order lead times”. This means that of the premises passed by the NBN, not all will immediately be able to order NBN services from retail ISPs."

I will stick to teasing the Acolytes and dodging bullets, rather than sort out NBN claims/counterclaims.

Ssssoooo let's get this into perspective.

It won't meet the deadline by 24% of connections. It's not exactly a failure to deliver. Simply a fractional setback based on contractual problems - the same kind of delays affecting most building programs these days.

But nero, you must have missed this bit: Coalition communications spokesman Malcolm Turnbull criticised the government for entering into new contracts before the election but denied it would significantly alter his party’s plan to change the NBN project and timeline should they win government.

So even if the Coalition gets in, the program will steam ahead regardless of the opposition we've heard for months now.

The Liberals seem to do this quite a bit - oppose vehemently anything Labor does (another good example is the PNG solution) but when/if they come into government, they won't repeal the policy?

The NBN is a white elephant , like all white elephants it is big, cumbersome as it ponders on regardless in the direction that it has in its own mind. Elephants , white or otherwise do not have very good eyes they rely on sheer bulk to get anything done, having a large bulk it consumes a lot of fodder and by doing that it creates l LOT of waste. It is claimed that it is speedy but i for one am not going to wait for it to metamorphose into a feline or a gazelle.

perhaps the still unborn may see some results but i doubt it

I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.
