NO BOATS or ILLEGALS since December 19 2013
Well done to the Abbott govt
No people-smuggling venture had succeeded in landing asylum seekers on Australia for more than four months, the government says.
In the latest update on Operation Sovereign Borders, Immigration Minister Scott Morrison said on Saturday that vigorous border protection activities was deterring illegal boat arrivals, even into the post-monsoon period when weather conditions usually improve.
Mr Morrison said the practice of turning back unauthorised boats remained in effect.
"Anyone seeking to enter Australia illegally by boat will be faced with the same policies those who previously attempted illegal entry met," he said in a statement.
Mr Morrison said no one had reached Australia since December 19 and that continued this month. But 3351 on 47 boats arrived in April 2013 under the former Labor government. (a Labor Failure their border policy)
The latest Operation Sovereign Borders operational update says there are now 1281 in the processing centre on Manus Island and 1177 on Nauru, making a total of 2458.
Another 1405 remain on Christmas Island. During the last week, eight asylum seekers were transferred to Nauru.
Seven unauthorised maritime arrival transferees were voluntarily returned to Iran.
Since Operation Sovereign Borders started on September 18, 220 asylum seekers have voluntarily returned to their home countries.

It's a disgrace that Tony Abbott hasn't sacked Scott Morrison...all that matters to these welfare cheats is that 'Stop the Boats' is 'believed' to be done. How can they expect to be trusted?
Scott Morrison knew he was wrong on brawl death
25th Feb 2014
Border Protection Minister Scott Morrison has confirmed he knew a week ago his initial statements about a fatal brawl at the immigration detention facility on Manus Island were likely to have been wrong but has refused to say why he waited to correct the record until Saturday night.
Instead he has advised that his own conduct will be subject to an internal review, which will also take in the role of his officers, the private company charged with security at the detention centre, G4S, and Papua New Guinea authorities

UNHCR slams Australia over violence at Manus Island asylum seeker camp
May 9, 2014
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees has criticised Australia's lack of responsibility over the Manus Island violence in a Senate inquiry submission, as documents show the disturbance at the detention centre was so widespread the telephone and computers were damaged.
The UNHCR says regional processing does not extinguish Australia’s legal responsibility for the protection of asylum seekers who have been transferred to Manus Island, and that the safety of asylum seekers should be equally shared between Australia and Papua New Guinea.
The submission also questioned the lengthy delays in processing asylum seekers on the island, which has contributed to anxiety and uncertainty.
In March, Immigration Minister Scott Morrison maintained the processing of asylum seekers was almost "decision ready".

Glad you caught up and your confusion has abated.
The entire subject of Asylum Seekers and those in detention is very much in the jurisdiction of our government
How do you even know that Indonesia wanted to acceopt the person writing that letter? Our Govt cannot just send someone who has declared themselves as Stateless onto another country.where they are also a non citizen. They need to apply to immigrate, just like anybody else does.
Anyway, I'm done, no point trying to discuss this topic with someone who refuses to do any research and establish exactly what is required and what can be done.

I will leave it to you to catch up .You can search and find the information and see ALL of the signatures
so that you will know how many people 'that person' is.
AND read for yourself what Scott Morrison's reported response to the petition was.

IZA! It makes no difference how many people signed that letter. They are all self proclaimed to be Stateless!
What happens if the next place they cherry pick to seek assylum doesn't accept them? We simply can't "give them permission" to leave once we have taken responsibility for them.
Thiose laws up there show how to do so contravenes our very Constitution, requires an abuse of the separation of powers. As distatsteful as it may seem in some situations, the three arms of government are answerable to each other. That and the rule of law are the cornerstones of a liberal democratic society.
This law operates no differently in the US or the UK, the countries from where these laws are drawn to create our Constitution.
We can't just manipulate the laws and constitution to suit a specific desire. They are what they are, and to change them requires a referendum.
You are casting blame on an entity that cannot do something different to what they are doing in the situation of those ion that letter.
These are not laws that Mr Abbott has hastily penned in order to persecute these people, they are laws established at the beginning of Federation and clarified many, many times since, in the High Court of Australia.

"In its majestic equality, the law forbids rich and poor alike to sleep under bridges, beg in the streets and steal loaves of bread."

crikey*mate, Given what you acknowledge ...If the Navy or any Australian put 2 unprocessed asylum seekers on an asylum seeker boat and escorted that boat to Indonesia or took part in that process they have broken the Law haven't they?

1000 petitions will not do any good, they are illegal immigrants trying to rort the system, garnering sympathy from left wing sympathisers who would support anybody to hurt the present government.
They have jettisoned all papers and ID, traversed across many countries with thousands of dollars, armed with plans and instructions from the network of smugglers, to illegally gain entrance into Australia.
This is an industry, not anything to do with humanitarian refuge, just illegal entry into Australia at any cost and it does cost them $1000's they are willing to spend.
They don't care about our laws, borders or our country, all they want is that golden Australian citizenship so they can go about their business with immunity.
Labor has done this to our country, opened it up to criminals and opportunists, drug smugglers and terrorists.
Now the viscious crimial trade has been stopped it in it's tracks the left are whinging about anything they think will hurt the government and subsequently hurt our country.
Australians have moved on, Labor has moved on, time for the leftist sympathisers to move on and find another bete noir to assuage themselves with.

Boat turn-back could 'constitute people smuggling offence'
Federal police will be asked to investigate whether border protection personnel committed a people-smuggling offence while turning back an asylum-seeker boat.
Indonesian navy officers claim Australian authorities added three people to an asylum seeker boat before sending it back to Indonesia in the past week.
Indonesia says, if the reports are true, it would constitute a serious development.
Labor is demanding an explanation from Immigration Minister Scott Morrison, while the Greens want AFP Commissioner Tony Negus to investigate whether an illegal activity was committed.
One of Australia's leading experts on diplomacy, the Australian National University's Professor William Maley, told Brian Thomson, it may not be just Australian law that has been breached.
