Re: North Korea rattles sabres....threatens the US

i think its generally recognised she's tough, i don't think that excuses the treatment dished out to her though. its completely overdone.. toughness does not require her detractors to step it up to the point it's reached. saying 'she can take it' is really guesswork as nobody knows her well enough to make that call. its shameful.

You might empathise (subconsciously?) with what the Sisterhood  perceive as discrimination towards the PM, but that abbreviation does not stand for Poor Me, or even Precious Me.

I repeat: "Give me strength YIA and FN, she is in federal politics after being a  trade union solicitor. When will the sisterhood recognise that she is tough. (and I do not mean the cats mother)

It's not a subconscious empathy for the PM. It's a totally fed up with the BS about sexist attitudes to women.

Never did I suggest that PM stands for poor me. Nor did I suggest that she such as in the sentence above is using SHE in an offensive manner.  I have read whole articles where her name and title have been substituted with SHE for the duration. I've heard men in parliament use SHE when they should be using the name. There are contexts in which she is just not the right choice.

Yes she, the PM, is tough but that is no reason to ridicule her for that in a way that a man would not be ridiculed.

I don't hassle old guys (men and women) for about their sexist comments because most of them have grown up in a different era and place. Many know no different. The media and current MPs have no excuse.  Nor do the people spreading the vitriol on social media platforms.

If we allow our leaders to treat women with such contempt how can we expect the citizens to treat them any better?  For that reason, no, it is not OK!

Freaki, could it be that JOOLYA!! gets ridiculed just because for being rediculous and not because of the gender?

I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

No.

Why do you ridicule her?

Saying she is ridiculous is not a reason.

There has been a nasty campaign against her.

Not G rated caricature but vile sexist attacks that would not be made against men.

On the other hand and a more sinister form of sexism is the way the content is misreported or ignored whilst reports are faked up or about the trivial stuff such as glasses, clothing and hair styles.

It just seems to be the old boys club can't handle a woman in the top job.

The old boys club is not the parties. It's the parties, the media, and hangers on. It's not only men either. It's generations of people that think women's equality is about the girls fixing the fences or mowing the lawns. Doing what the boys do. Heaps of them do that and all the "girl stuff" too, like laundry, cleaning, etc. And like you, just think we should accept our second rate lot in life, getting the short end of the stick.

Since the end of the Korean War 60 years ago, the government of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK or North Korea) has repeatedly put forward virtually the same four proposals to the United States. They are:

1. A peace treaty to end the Korean War.

2. The reunification of Korea, which has been “temporarily” divided into North and South since 1945.

3. An end to the U.S. occupation of South Korea and a discontinuation of annual month-long U.S-South Korean war games.

4. Bilateral talks between Washington and Pyongyang to end tensions on the Korean peninsula.

These four points are not new. They were put forward in the 1950s. I visited the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea as a journalist for the (U.S.) Guardian newspaper three times during the 1970s for a total of eight weeks.

Time after time, in discussions with officials, I was asked about a peace treaty, reunification, withdrawal of U.S. troops from the south, and face-to-face talks.

The situation is the same today.

The U.S. won’t budge.

Why not?

Washington wants to get rid of the communist regime before allowing peace to prevail on the peninsula.

WASHINGTON -- The Pentagon's deployment in the last week of its most advanced fighters, bombers and warships to counter North Korea's mounting threats has overshadowed its more gradual buildup of forces in the region.

Over the last year, the military has responded to the Obama administration's "pivot" to Asia as it withdraws troops from Afghanistan and its war in Iraq recedes into history.

The rebalancing of forces addresses, in part, the rise of Chinese power in the region.

Other changes were made with a clear focus on North Korea.

B-2 stealth bombers took part last week in war games with the South Koreans, and on Sunday F-22 fighters landed in South Korea.

Two advanced Navy warships capable of shooting down ballistic-missiles prowled waters in the region, Little said.

"We are looking for the temperature to be taken down on the Korean Peninsula," he said.

Yeah mate....... blah blah blah......

that's the way to take the temperature down... by trying to scare them into submission  😐

Re: North Korea rattles sabres....threatens the US

Hmmm.... sounds a bit like 'The Mouse That Roared'.  Does anyone remember that film?

I think the young man, if his intentions to bring down the US are genuine should have taken a leaf out of the Terrorist book and not said anything, just done it.

He obviously has no real knowledge of the technologies the US can incorporate at any given moment to defend themselves and a million fighters in Korea can hardly sail across to the US coast undetected to attack how many millions of Americans?

The sums do not equate.  I think he is looking to be defeated so he can have US financial help, which is what the US seems to do to the countries it defeats, and was the basis for  that film The Mouse that Roared.

Whatever the logistics, I really can't imagine that it will come to all out nuclear war... we have been on the brink of that on and off for decades.

As for Julia 'going to war' well she might like to but I doubt the war cabinet would let her, it never happens that easily.
