Investigators are hoping that new information will help solve the mystery of what happened to Madeleine McCann.

The then- three-year-old British girl disappeared six years ago while vacationing with her family in Portugal.

Scotland Yard is planning to release a computerized sketch of a possible person of interest in the case.

Former prosecutor Wendy Murphy joined America’s News Headquarters to discuss the development.

"I’m not buying it. I think this is more PR than anything," Murphy said. "I think this is all related to a civil suit now underway in Portugal." 

The McCanns sued the former police chief for defamation because he wrote a tell-all book.

Madeleine McCann: Portuguese police to reopen their search for missing Maddie

Portuguese police are understood to have issued an official request to relaunch the search after considering new material from the UK. Sources said an official announcement is expected today.

Under Portuguese law, the probe can only be reopened after a ruling by senior ­prosecutors.

Pedro do Carmo, deputy head of Policia Judiciária, last night refused to confirm or deny the move.

It is believed Portuguese police are finally convinced the McCanns were not involved in their daughter’s disappearance from an apartment in Praia da Luz and are ready to probe the abduction theory.

We are very pleased that the investigation to find our missing daughter Madeleine has officially been reopened in Portugal. We hope that this will finally lead to her being found and the discovery of who is responsible for this crime.

Which man is that Am3 ?

The one from the efit which the McCann's PI's apparently got key witness Martin Smith to do in 2008 ?

Having read his statements it is curious that an efit was done with a face at all ? When it was his clothing (part of which was I think beige pants,possibly with buttons ) and a distinctive way the man was carrying the child (which he later recognised as similar to the way Gerry McCann did when tv footage showed him exiting a plane carrying one of the twins ).

The face of the man wasn't seen ?

we have irish and greek 'Maddies' being found and reported on .

Hopefully the man that they are looking for based on that efit is the right man .

As I understand it, they are trying to track down two German speaking men - so obviously they have what they believe is credible information which has not been made public. Possibly the e-fit photos recently published refer to them.

I posted that map only because it is the clearest, easiest one to work out what is what  and where, that I have seen.

If further developments are published  in the near future by the Met or the Portueugese investigations, then it may be useful.

I believe the Portuguese police have only recently started  investigating mobile phone records, who was in the area at that time etc.

Portugal orders re-opening of Madeleine case

Portuguese authorities have ordered the re-opening of the case into disappearance of Madeleine McCann. It has also emerged that police in Portugal have excluded the possibility of Madeleine's parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, of having had any involvement in their daughter's disappearance.

A statement sent to The Portugal News explained: “The Public Prosecutor’s Office has determined the re-opening of the inquiry relating to the disappearance of Madeleine McCann following a proposal by the Polícia Judiciária and due to the presentation of new elements which justify the continuation of the investigation.”

It is believed the PJ team in Oporto uncovered shortcomings in the initial investigation conducted by their counterparts in the Algarve and were now actively pursuing the theory that Madeleine McCann was abducted from a holiday apartment in Praia da Luz. Helena Monteiro and her four-man team of detectives, who were handed the case due to their expertise and neutrality, having never worked on it before, are also reported to be keen on speaking to a number of people who were never questioned during the first investigation led by inspectors in the Algarve.

Why were the dogs ignored? they had solved 200 cases before the McCann case.

They are cadaver dogs, and they definitely smelt something in the unit and in the hire car.

I dont think the McCanns are amazing at all- they left a 3 yr old and the younger twins, in a unit by themselves at night. enough said about what great parents they are.
