Investigators are hoping that new information will help solve the mystery of what happened to Madeleine McCann.

The then- three-year-old British girl disappeared six years ago while vacationing with her family in Portugal.

Scotland Yard is planning to release a computerized sketch of a possible person of interest in the case.

Former prosecutor Wendy Murphy joined America’s News Headquarters to discuss the development.

"I’m not buying it. I think this is more PR than anything," Murphy said. "I think this is all related to a civil suit now underway in Portugal."

The McCanns sued the former police chief for defamation because he wrote a tell-all book.

Alisyn pointed out that the McCanns claim the Portuguese police never took the case seriously

Why were the dogs ignored? they had solved 200 cases before the McCann case.

They are cadaver dogs, and they definitely smelt something in the unit and in the hire car.

I dont think the McCanns are amazing at all- they left a 3 yr old and the younger twins, in a unit by themselves at night. enough said about what great parents they are.

Cadaver dogs DO NOT solve cases, they find bodies or remains.  Body is usually necessary for charges to be laid, and dog can do it much faster than human.  So, if there is a body in given, often large area, dog can find it and find it quickly.  But it will also find any other remains of animal and it will not distinguish whether it died yesterday or 500 years ago.

If you read this topic through, you would have found that in this case the dogs' "finding" was far from ignored, it actually totally misdirected the investigation.  The footage of the dogs inspecting the unit and cars shows the handler influencing the dogs.

 - if I want to research a missing person I should come to CS? lol. I've followed the case from the start like a lot of people have.

Eddie had worked on 200 cases before the McCann case and maybe didnt solve the crimes himself but was an important part of the cases.

We must have seen different footage Nova, there are differing accounts of their reliability.  from what I've seen the dogs did their job and they smelt something.

Add to that the suspect behaviour of the parents, Kates refusal to answer questions, Kate deciding to run the 100 metres back to the Tapas bar instead of just screaming from the balcony, their running off to see the Pope, their poor parenting skills.......I'm not convinced at all that Maddie was abducted.

So why do you think the British and now the Portuguese Police have both said they do not consider the McCanns as suspects? Is it some kind of international conspiracy to cover up the truth, or could it be that they have access to an awful lot more information than you do?

I personally think the McCann's are strong people to be able to carry on day after day as they do. They have stayed together, something that many are unable to do after the loss / abduction / death of a child.

They didn't do anything that other parents haven't done. It was a place where leaving children once asleep is common place. It's done on ships too. It's done in homes. They have to live with that every day. They both look aged and stressed, but must stay strong for the other 2 children. Their pain must be unbearable....and the fact that some keep criticising them only reflects on the other 2 children who do not deserve it. Not answering question? Following legal advice?

Dogs do not solve crimes. They may help sniff out certain contributions to that , but they don't solve anything, that is left to humans. And humans also make mistakes.

There is not a  person as a parent that has not made a mistake. I was left behind after my mother shopped at the bakers.....it was some hours before she realized I was still in my pram at the bakery. We once left home with 2 of our 3 children only to suddenly realize the baby was still at home. .... we had not travelled far. I once locked myself out of the house while my baby was in his highchair. Decades ago children were left in cars to sleep while parents visited with friends.

Im not convinced that Maddie was abducted TGSE, that is just my little opinion.

I hope she does turn up but all this latest news is really nothing knew, mainly just the timeline changing.

Yes, poor decisions made by the parents but the whole group did the same?

Only one of the dogs was trained for dead bodies, the other for blood/urine etc.

However, the hire car was not new and not only hired by the McCanns? nor the apartment,  It's possible the dog made an error..or smelled someone else's body fluids?

the whole group were irresponsible Az, and it is possible the dogs smelt something prior.

and I realise behaviour after the fact is personal.  I dont know, accidents can happen (especially when young children are left alone) and they wouldnt be the first parents to cover up an accidental death.

I agree. but if they had covered up a death, I suspect she would have been found by now?

I have known mothers who will leave their baby asleep at home in the morning while they make a quick trip in and out to school with older kids  or a quick trip to a corner store.

.A friend of mine used to run down to my house (about 10 houses away) to pick up her eldest child from my house who was playing there, while her youngest baby was asleep at home.

Something I would never do. More because of SID syndrome than abductors for younger babies. For toddlers able to walk I wouldn't do it either because they may wake up and panic if no parent home.

Just because parents do those things, it  doesn't necessarily follow they are likely to murder their child or hide their body if they died accidentally.

The sniifer dogs are used as a 'guide' investigation. There was no other scientific evidence to back up their outcomes.
