Oh, Jacqui !

Everytime I start almost respect her, she comes up with something so breathtakingly dum :

"The photographer who took the picture of an Afghani policewoman, which has been used in an online campaign to ban the burka, says Senator Jacqui Lambie has desecrated her image.

Malalai Kakar was Afghanistan's first female policewoman who the Taliban gunned down in her car in 2008. She was well known for her stance on women's rights.

Lana Slezic says she is shocked and appalled the photo she took of Lt Col Kakar in Afghanistan has been used out of context and without permission."

Re: Oh, Jacqui !

The reason Lambie wants the Burqua banned is to score points with bigots in the hope she is kept on the front page and that her position is secured. She thinks the majority of Australia are bigots but I am betting she is wrong.

She is on this page too.

Kakar, 45, was famous for taking on unspoken crimes - domestic violence, rape and child abuse. Her female-only team challenged the male hierarchy while staying within its framework.

She graduated from Kandahar police academy in 1982 - the first woman to do so - and PANOS policing was in her blood. Her father and brothers were all officers. As Kandahari women usually onlytravel in the company of a male relative, one of her brothers became her police partner - just one example of how she worked the system in order to buck it.

And more...

All photos are automatically copyrighted to the photographer, and the copyright remains valid  for very long time after their death.  Unless the photographer published the photo somewhere offering it for use, Jacqui is in bit of a hot water for using it without permission.  But in any case there is no way the photograph can be misused like that.

Re: Oh, Jacqui !

What was the point of the picture anyway? Why is a woman carrying a gun more dangerous if she is wearing a burqa? How many gun deaths have there been in Australia the last five years, say -  and how many of the killers have been women wearing burqas?

Re: Oh, Jacqui !

A spokesman for Senator Lambie said she would review the image, but was happy with the message.

Senator Lambie yesterday called for a ban on burkas in public and said she would not allow anyone wearing the traditional garment into her...

She will review it??? really?? she needs to remove it and apologise.

However, that can't be correct, a woman wearing the burqua .... Muslim..... and killed by the Taliban?

I guess they were the radicals and she was the Muslim fighting for women.

RIP.

Re: Oh, Jacqui !

That same photo (without words)  was used in a story elsewhere :  something about reminding the writer of Sarah Palin.

Frankly, how can you tell who it is?  That is the reason for Senator Lambie (and others before her) want the burqa banned.

I seem to recall in the news a while back, that a male dressed in this way, to avoid detection for a misdemeanour or crime.
