Old Chinwag Craft Board Block Swap 2007

Sometime in early 2007, the Craft Board quilters got together and organised a Block Swap. We had to design and prepare enough blocks to make a quilt for ourselves, provide the first block completed and send the package on to the other crafty people in the swap.
We each completed a block in everyone's set.
My quilt was for my grandsons' bedroom in my home. I set a theme of teddy bears and boy's toys.
Most of these quilts have been finished for some time....... but.... I could not make a decision on how to do mine until recently.
I learned so much in that year and can't thank everyone who was involved enough! My applique skills are much improved.
So, thank you ♥

I have also sewn the labels of the blockmakers onto the back of the quilt, behind the relevant blocks.
I made mine into a quillow, a quilt that folds into a pillow, so one of the blocks is on the back of the quilt and when folded into it, becomes a pillow.
My 3 yo grandaughter looked at it and said "Gran, that is brilliant" and that is a good recommendation, so I have to thank everyone who was involved.

LOL thanks everyone, and pleased you recognised a beach april....even a stony English one!

Hey chuk I clicked on that link, but it didn't take me far and said the store was offline. Is that where you got your calculator and it's a US company isn't it?

I think I have seen them at Spotlight, but didn't check price. I'll have a look on Thursday.

What are you making at the moment Karen?

I have a sampler top finished which is for me and really must back and quilt it before I start yet another project.
I actually still havent't made a quilt for myself!

sorry keeli I was meant to add I got mine from spotlight for $70. Bit hard to get your head around but it does convert to metric so it's good. Also has a DVD which tells you how to use it.
That link was more so you could see what it was all about

Hi Jules.,

I finally got here with the help of Chuk... she supplied the link... thanks again Chuk... have bookmarked it now:)
Why I couldn't find it by myself I don't know.

Was totally worth coming though to see your quilt Jules.... fantabulous ! you clever girl.... just lovely.

A quilt is one thing I have never attempted.... yet I always love the finished product... just looks so fiddly and I have the attention span of a flea..lol

Last year I thought I'd try my hand at embroidering grub roses... I was a total failure at it... I think I need to be shown., or maybe I needed a special needle., I don't know, but I just love them., if only I could.

Oops., sorry to ramble on.
Hi to all crafty sewers:)

Hah! Amber my quilt is nothing, such clever clever people on here and all so lovely!!

When I first started I got so much help here, and having been to classes since still think the best most unbiased advice is here...*bows to quilting ladies*

I actually found the chit chat about the new kitten/kitchen/dog/husband/renovations very distracting in class.

I felt I learned very little really.

But then I am just surly:-( LOL I like to socialise, but I was also there to be instructed and there was not much of that.

Come join us Amber and if that quilt is giving you the irrits Chuk, put it away and start something else...

OMG I sound like a missionary....sorry!

Oh and amber I tried grub roses two years ago, a long time ago I did them all the time and smocking silk ribbon embroidery, so thought I would try them on a little babys singlet, but mine were woeful too! Don't be disheartened!

I tried to find books to teach me how to do it, I still have all my old smocking books, but they said things like "work row 3 in grub roses" but no instructions as to how to do it! Aaaargh

Re: Old Chinwag Craft Board Block Swap 2007

Hi Bundy!!! and Amber! 🙂
I think the thing about most classes is.... they are designed to teach you how to make one quilt. The whole purpose of the class seems to be.... book another to make a different quilt? I have known people who do that continuously..... never make one otherwise.
The social aspect is the other side of it.
I took a class once for basic quilting. We learned it from step 1 and how to make it at home, by myself. I did but I also took more classes with the same teacher.... quite a few years later and I moved away but have remained close friends with the teacher......
Everything I know that is correct, I learned from her.... 🙂
My mistakes are my own....lol
I have also taken classes with Jane McDonald and Yan Pring. I loved that but.... they don't teach basics.

Oh so there you go.....

I just realised I have no clue about quilting, as I hear you all talk about a block ???????????????????? whatever that is or is used for:(

Me thinks I'll have to start at the very beginning ... verrrrry basic.
Oh well., I guess I can only go up from there.

And I wonder what the secret to grub roses is? No classes around here unfortunately.

Hope everyone has had a lovely day 🙂
