Old Chinwag Craft Board Block Swap 2007

Sometime in early 2007, the Craft Board quilters got together and organised a Block Swap. We had to design and prepare enough blocks to make a quilt for ourselves, provide the first block completed and send the package on to the other crafty people in the swap.
We each completed a block in everyone's set.
My quilt was for my grandsons' bedroom in my home. I set a theme of teddy bears and boy's toys.
Most of these quilts have been finished for some time....... but.... I could not make a decision on how to do mine until recently.
I learned so much in that year and can't thank everyone who was involved enough! My applique skills are much improved.

I have also sewn the labels of the blockmakers onto the back of the quilt, behind the relevant blocks.
I made mine into a quillow, a quilt that folds into a pillow, so one of the blocks is on the back of the quilt and when folded into it, becomes a pillow.
My 3 yo grandaughter looked at it and said "Gran, that is brilliant" and that is a good recommendation, so I have to thank everyone who was involved.

Stippling takes alot of practice, and I would only try it on a test piece first.

I am trying to teach myself free hand feathers - 10 minutes of sewing and 4 hours of unpicking.

The best advice I can give about free hand FMQ is practice with pencil and paper first - notice the movement and flow of the design, so you have a rough idea the direction the fabric should be moved, to get the desired effect.

I did alot of free hand embroidery before I ever got into quilting, so it was just a small jump for me. I used to free hand embroider album covers on the back of shirts.

There are alot of instructional clips on youtube for FMQ - they make it look easy. But worth a look for the huge variety of patterns.

Stippling???? OK....I love stippled quilts but so far I have not managed to do one myself! and I like the idea of the hearts too.:-x

I use the term stippling very loosely Az. I have done it a couple of times. They would not pass muster in any kind of Quilt Show, that's for sure!

Love the mug rugs, especially the cow ones.

Yes liottle*stars, stippling is really hard, but I don't aim for perfection and if the lines happen to overlap I don't worry too much. My biggest problem is moving the fabric evenly so that I don't get either really tiny stitches or hig huge ones.

I've drawn all over the quilt top now, so I kind of have to keep going, but I really wish I had just done diagonal lines.

Oh well, whatever I do I know the recipient will think it's good, and having it all hold together is my main aim :^O
