Old Chinwag Craft Board Block Swap 2007

Sometime in early 2007, the Craft Board quilters got together and organised a Block Swap. We had to design and prepare enough blocks to make a quilt for ourselves, provide the first block completed and send the package on to the other crafty people in the swap.
We each completed a block in everyone's set.
My quilt was for my grandsons' bedroom in my home. I set a theme of teddy bears and boy's toys.
Most of these quilts have been finished for some time....... but.... I could not make a decision on how to do mine until recently.
I learned so much in that year and can't thank everyone who was involved enough! My applique skills are much improved.

I have also sewn the labels of the blockmakers onto the back of the quilt, behind the relevant blocks.
I made mine into a quillow, a quilt that folds into a pillow, so one of the blocks is on the back of the quilt and when folded into it, becomes a pillow.
My 3 yo grandaughter looked at it and said "Gran, that is brilliant" and that is a good recommendation, so I have to thank everyone who was involved.

that's interesting za - i'm just wondering, because I have made something for a particular occasion coming up & want to label it accordingly.

(ps I see there's a 'friendly' poster on another thread! what joy they bring...)

Is the pigma pen really that good? that it would stay on so well... ?? I was thinking of handstitching my label on a leftover piece of the fabric I used.
I can't put up pics of this piece until mid-Oct, when you see it you'll see why...

Pigma pens are fantastic! come in lots of colours and tip sizes. I usually put my labels on before the binding, in the lower corner, so the 2 seams enclose 2 edges, then hand stitch the other 2 edges. It means someone can't easily remove it?

Going to buy a pigma pen tomorrow az - & I've made a hand stitched label to write on.
And I had planned to stitch my label into the corner, or along a seam, so it can't be easily removed...


I feel like a teenager in the crafting world - just learning so much & changing attitudes on things i thought I would/could never achieve.

I always put my label on last, hope no one has pulled theirs off, but I can't do much about it now. Never thought of sewing it into the binding, LOL

I use unbleached calico for my labels, hand sew them on. Same pen as Karen, they are good. I name it the persons quilt, e;g; Linda's Quilt

Miss Linda, I have read a lot about stolen quilts and lost quilts 🙂 I always think if a littlie loses theirs, it might find it's way home if it has a label.

I do that too, and I use a a piece of fabric the same as the backing, if its not too busy.

Sewing the label into the binding is also neater IMO, and the less hand sewing the better.

The more I read about labelling the quilts & pieces you make, the more important I think that it is to do it.

Mostly because every person that sees your work should know how supremely talented & accurate & clever you are, to be able to make the quilt. They will know in which direction to shower their admiration of your skills....:^O

Bought pigma pen, made label, now it's ready to be stitched on my work...

I've been so busy with other stuff that I haven't been stitching much lately. I had planned to do some on Mon night, but my hand joints were very sore from doing some heavy cleaning during that day, I couldn't hold my needle properly:-(
