I have been told numerous times on here that Christians believe in the New Testament and the Old Testament is not irrelevent.
In particular I was told that the Old Testament is Pre-Christian and describes a DIFFERENT God with different attitudes. And that the New Testament is a stand-alone book so I assume.
Can someone please explain why?
(preferably someone who is religious and has actually read the books)

On murder ... there has been debate among Christians recently about whether it is "murder" or "kill" in the Ten Commandments, thus excusing killing in war, or in the death sentence. My own opinion is that killing anyone is rarely excusable, and that these instances are covered in our own laws such as self-defence.
Katy, this has been on my mind, particularly the killing thatv takes place during war. It needs to be noted that I have immense respect and grattitude for those who protect and serve our nation, I am not diminishing what they do.
But it is still killing. And again, where is the line? Who gets to draw the line and determine what is acceptable? The Winners? Is this where intent comes into it? But how do we determine whether the intent is an acceptable excuse? Most wars really seem like a bit of a **bleep** for tat where one side says - "we attacked because you did this" and the other side says "we did that because you did this". Grown up sandpit games with guns.
I just can't get my head around it is ok to kill as many as you want/need before someone raises the white flag then it's back to gentlemen's handshakes and a round of beers at the pub.
I am in favour of the Death Sentence for more crimes than murder, example, Terrorists, Pedophiles, Serial Rapists, (probably others). It is a stance with which I do struggle, because I am making excuses for murder. So what I am effectively saying is that I am ok if a person is murdered because I don't like them very much and they don't live life in a way acceptable to me. That makes me no different to Hitler.
I am also in favour of euthenasia as I said, but also in "allowing" a person to commit suicide. It's still the extinguishment of life and yet I am ok with those, yet the Commandment is quite clear "Though shalt not kill". It doesn't say it is ok to kill sometimes.
