Australia Day: Unsung heroes of our nationFrom:Herald Sun January 26, 2012 12:00AM
THEY are the backbone of our community, true blue unsung heroes who devote themselves to helping others.
Today the Herald Sun pays tribute to 12 selfless Victorians who embody the Australian spirit.
I have known many every day heroes. One of whom used to visit and chat with carers in their homes .I was fortunate to have known this wonderful women when my children were young and I was a single Mum of three (she herself a carer of an adult son with Mental Illness). She knew and understood the problems other carers in the Community face from her own years of personal experience. She did it well and as I say I consider myself fortunate to have had her in my life.I really admired/admire her.Unfortunately she knew the problems ..her life was cut short in her own home ,in the most violent way by someone who she loved and cared for and who loved her and many mourn her loss.
After her death a Child Care Centre was named after her.She wasn't the sort that would have ever expected such recognition though she was someone who imo was really deserving of it ...and during her life-time.She saw that others needed what she herself (and her son) needed and she will always be a hero in my eyes.I hope that she knows just how much she was appreciated.

Thanks for that link Iza I watched it feeling quite teary. true blue unsung heroes
who just do what they can to help in the background and don't seek fame or gratitude, just do it because well, they're heros in my book.
In the past I've b een on the receiving end too of such selfless humble people who have just given me that extra bit of courage to go the extra steps when needed.
I can really relate to how you feel about that wonderful woman who despite all her own
problems still was able to share her compassion and help you and others as she did.
We never forget these wonderful people.

Hero's save lives.
not necessarily.
THose who bombed abortion clinics and kill abortion doctors think they're saving lives of unborn babies.
I'm gonna come from left field. I don't think firefighters, soldiers are heros. They are merely doing their job. No more than F1 drivers risking their life for the entertainment of others or doctors trying to save lives. Singling them out demeans the meaning of the word hero.
