Disgusting.
We need more global laws and policing.
With internet communication, satelite photography it is becoming more possible to prevent misuse of Flora n Fauna due to human selfishness on a global scale.
But while governments such as the Chinese let atrocities occur for their own benefit we need to boycott them and any country involved in such.
I am Scandinavian and I will say the Faroe Islands' so called tradition ritual is another starting point.
Sickens me to know earth's creatures treated in such barbaric ways.

And Japan's stance on hunting whales 'for scientific purposes?'
All whaling should stop IMO

It should at least be limited to begin with such as what Norway has done.
Norway have often caught under their quota in a year.
I believe it's around 1200 a year and they have caught around half of that in many years.
Japan's stance on whaling is just self incriminating and disgraceful.
It is also not necessarily the governments likes but private concerns claiming tradition and possibly backed by the Yakuza

Just a general comment, not replying specifically to kopenhagen's post.
But why should we be surprised at how some humans treat animals when we look at how some people treat other humans.
I've just been reading a report about new, harsher laws in Brunei. Basically, it comes down to the fact that homosexuality or adultery can be punished with stoning to death. Now i don't know about anyone else here, but to me, stoning is a primitive, brutal and inhumane way to kill any living creature.
Drinking alcohol will get you a whipping.
And this is only the second phase towards the introduction of full sharia law, so it is going to get worse.
Yet the Sultan of Brunei owns hotels worldwide, with fully stocked bars and they are fully prepared to take your money.
I think money talks. Some people, whether in China, Brunei, wherever, have vastly different world views and all we can do sometimes is NOT support them financially.
