One Nation wanted millions from the NRA while planning to soften Australia's gun laws
Secret recordings of senior One Nation figures reveal the party wanted millions of dollars in political donations from America's National Rifle Association and discussed softening its policies on gun ownership as it tried to secure the funding.
Pauline Hanson's chief of staff James Ashby and the party's Queensland leader Steve Dickson were covertly filmed during a series of meetings with powerful pro-gun advocates in Washington DC last September.
Footage from inside the meetings, broadcast overnight as part of an Al Jazeera investigation, shows the pair seeking political donations and discussing political strategies to undermine Australia's gun restrictions.

What is wrong with these people?
There have been no mass killings of people by strangers since the gun ban/Port Arthur.
The NRA doesn't like our gun legislation held up as a model for the USA to follow suit.
Pauline Hanson has distanced herself.
Two months after her chief of staff was seeking funding from the US, One Nation leader Pauline Hanson denounced foreign donations in a Senate debate about a bill proposing to ban them.
"Overseas money should not have an influence on our political scene, so I believe that foreign donations should be totally stopped," Ms Hanson said.

"What is wrong with these people?"
Totally deranged is about as polite as I wish to post here!!
If I wanted to live in a country with idiotic gun laws, I would move to America.
I feel safer here because I live in a country with good gun laws.

""During the meeting, Mr Dickson was recorded telling Koch Industries representatives that One Nation could "change the voting system" if the party had more funding.""
I wonder how One Nation planned to "change our voting system""

I know this sort of thing happens everywhere, with all different types of issues and across all parties but what I particularly don't like about it, ever, (forgetting for the moment the actual issue-guns) is that a foreign interest group-and not even a foreign nation at that, just an interest group, is using money to try to exert influence on our laws and policies.
Political parties should be answerable to the voters, no one else.
I recall a while back, I think either One Nation or Pauline Hanson brought up an issue which I 100% agreed with. They exposed an online survey that was being done-I think about migrant numbers to Australia or some such thing- and the results were going to actually go before parliament posing as legitimate public opinion. Yet anyone, anywhere in the world could do the survey and do it more than once, apparently. So some migrant groups were sending it 'home' to get their interests pushed. Meanwhile, a lot of Australians didn't even know about it.
One Nation rightly pointed out that for such a survey to carry weight, all voters should at least be givent he chance post a vote on it (once only) and it should only be open to Australian residents.
They need to apply the same standards to their own behaviour now and not 'sell' their support to overseas interests of any kind.
I'd be as much against it if we were talking money from the US Anti-gun lobby as the gun lobby.

I had 11 spam text messages from 'their party' in two and a half days,I blocked 9 of the numbers (didn't think at the time to block the other two) assumingly they used disposable sim cards
Any party desperate enough to bombard a person with that many text messages is likely to do anything to get their way
Lower than snake guts

100% agree. Bunch of Qld rednecks said a farmer to the ABC reporters that were interviewing him. 100% agree with him too.
Got no time for bigots or racists.

I think it is disgraceful that Hanson would sell the soul and safety of the country for money.
I sometimes try hard to give her the benefit of the doubt, but she keeps disappointing me.

Pauline Hanson and One Nation slammed over foreign funding and gun law revelations, James Ashby and Steve Dickson claim they were set up
Well DUH!
of course you were 'set-up' you idiot, but no one made you do and say anything.
that was all your own doing.
dont try to shoot the messenger ect ect.
best way not to be recorded saying stuff is to never say it.
i am amazed this 'party' is still going after so many past screw-ups. along with mr Palmer they make australian politics look really bad.
pauline jumps from one nutters bed to the next, anything for a bit of publicity. and when it goes bad as it allways does its 'oh they are out to get me' i'm just a chip shop lady trying to do her best. now shes got latham in her camp, that can only mean trouble coming.
