We are all spoilt rotten  lol............I remember mum doing the washing by boiling up the copper and stirring with a huge pole her face red with steam.   And sometimes the copper boiling over and the laundry floor covered with scalding soapy water.  Wringing out the sheets by hand.

Good old Bluo - looked like a weird tea bag

You can still buy it Helen,   I do.      It makes your whites, whiter

We must have been spoilt - our copper was hooked up to the gas

Think that is why the budgie didn't last.

Our's must have been gas also - oh those bluey thingys.

The copper was in the laundry close by a set of two concrete tubs.

I recall my brother & me getting all excited if we were allowed to bath - side by side in those tubs.

And we did - they got filled to the rim - we would chuck water at each other.

Frameless shower screen - my - times are different.

Helen ours was exactly the same, huge copper next to two concrete tubs.  My twin bro and I used to bath in those too,,  when the sheets weren't soaking in the Blue.

Washing line     .......just that, a line, resting on wooden stake things that had to be manually pushed up or down.

i had that thought but it makes no difference, it does it empty (no items just water), with just a few items or a lot of items.

It sounds like the machine itself is out of balance,(which unbalances it when it's running).
Try rocking the machine from side to side when it's empty and see if it "leans" one way.
Most newer ones have adjustable legs or use bent over cardboard under the "short" leg.

it doesnt 'rock' and it hasnt got adjustable feet. all 4 'feet' are on the floor.

i'm thinking, get a front loader, weld up a stand to lift it to an easier height for loading, bolt the stand to the floor, bolt the washer to the stand.

that suckers not going anywhere.
