Opening up the books for Unions.

Do the Unions have a right to demand that a private business open up the books so that they can look at them and tell them how to run their business? 

This demand has always baffled me.... what right does anyone other than the business owners have to look at the financials of a business? It did no good when they demanded this of Toyota and Holden.... so why do it with Qantas? 

If the unions think they can do better go and take your millions, pool them together and open up your own business and employ your own people. 

Why does a business have to bow down to Unions like that. Fair enough look after your workers, make sure they have a safe environment and fair pay but what gives them the rights to go right into the heart of a business? 

Does a business not have  the right to hire and fire who they want and to grow the business as they feel.... or am I misled in that thought????

Qantas is a publicly listed company, not that I have ever had the inclination to buy shares in it.

Are unions open to the same scrutiny as companies? are they liable under company law to be responsible stewards of millions of dollars of workers money? are unions liable under law for corruption the same as companies?

I think the answer to all the above is NO.

The RC will be interesting and the laws going to be passed to bring unions under the same umbrella as companies is a good thing, but not as far as the unions are concerned, it's just a witch hunt but they have gone real quiet haven't they.

The unions are just bullying and the blowhard antics? is just that and they know it.

I wonder how the freeze on wages and conditions will go down with the unions, didn't seem to matter to them at Toyota, they just drove the company into the ground then blamed PM Abbott.

Thanks for that MM, I didn't even consider that the information is already available. Of course it is..... 

So the Unions don't need to ask to look at the books like they have been demanding as they have the relevant information at their finger tips.

the details reqd are not already available. the information they seek is not published in annual reports.

When it becomes law for the unions to be subject to the same as company laws  then we will see a difference and an end to the thieving and corruption. We live in hope.

well no, in the scenario you speak of they would have to be far worse. nobody is as bent as elements of business, we need unions as a bulwark against rampant corrupt business.

Igonoring the  train that is heading towards Labor and the corrupt union movement is going to be excruciating for Labor and the corrupt unions.

The money tap, the rivers of cash, will have to be accounted for.
