I only like opera in languages i understand (which sorta reduces it to my 1st language as i don't know if there are any GOOD operas in english?).
I want to know what is going on (especially when i am listening to it for 3 hours).

Have you given up your first language Kennie?
By the way there are quite a few German opera to be had but i Guess now that you have relinquished your mother tongue and adopted English your taste for opera has been a casualty

I hate the sound of women singing opera, it sounds like a cat caught in a roller door. I don't mind the blokes singing and I like classical music.

No, i have not given up on my mother tongue it's just that hubby who is a native english speaker can't comprehend german. I'ts too complicated. english is so simple that it appears to be made for toddlers. Not much grammar and no beauty whatsoever. i can understand that it must be VERY hard to learn a language that contains a mentionable amount of grammar.
I only listen to german opera. there is mozart and he is so entertaining.

pimpy, you have not heard the right pieces.
i am sorry to inform you that i can't think of anything you would like as you would need to understand the lyrics and i don't think there is anything good in english as they have have no soul therefore there are no english operas worth listening to.
