Opera - you like it?

I only like opera in languages i understand (which sorta reduces it to my 1st language as i don't know if there are any GOOD operas in english?).

I want to know what is going on (especially when i am listening to it for 3 hours).

In that case my condolences 🙂

I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

Re: Opera - you like it?

I love opera.

Verdi

Mozart

Puccini

Handel (there you are, Xerxes in English...)

Wagner

Rossini

Bellini

Strauss

and I have favorite singers and conductors and orchestras...

Joan Sutherland

Renata Tibaldi

Victoria de los Angeles

for Wagner...Christa Ludwig...Birgit Nillson (if you think women can only caterwaul, you really need to hear the great, classical singers; her live Isolde just completely knocks you over, rips you apart and leaves you thunderstruck)

conductors for opera: Karl Bohm (Wagner live), sometimes Herbert von Karajan (Strauss, some Wagner) is what I have been listening to recently.

Re: Opera - you like it?

You might like to listen to Henry Purcell's "Dido and Anneas", and then there is Handel, who was German, but wrote a lot of music for voice in English as well .. hope that is helpful xx
