Outrageous sentencing of Peter Greste.

I find it appalling that the Australian news has hardly touched on it and that the government hasn't issued an official statement condemning the Egyptian governement.

I think we are waiting for the Americans to step in.

Bishop keeps going on about how "disappointed" she is. Why isn't the government publicly condeming the decision. Other countries and the UN are publicly denouncing the verdict and imploring Egypt to rethink it. Yet we have one of our own caught up in it, and can barely muster up a frown.

It is outrageous to think these people can be imprisoned for just doing their jobs. Let's hope our so called leaders pull their fingers out and at least try to do something to help get the journalists out.

Perhaps they dont think it would be very diplomatic to insult the Egyptians at this stage, may ruin any chance of having him released.

I have read through the link entirely and it explicitly reports that the Aust. Government intends doing, as you put it,  "something" diplomatically through the Dept of Foreign Affairs & Trade.

It really is appalling. We have a gutless government so I doubt if they will be doing much to help free Peter Greste.

Crossing off a  pretendy best friend with a pretendy pencil?

The ABC have been following the case since Peter Greste and the other Al Jazeera journalists  were arrested.

Newscorp probably won't give it much air. Puts these dills in a bad light because they cant do anything. I see the other thread was removed after I highlighted what Uncle Sam did to Al Jazeera reporters in Iraq.
