Outrageous sentencing of Peter Greste.

I find it appalling that the Australian news has hardly touched on it and that the government hasn't issued an official statement condemning the Egyptian governement.

They could, but would the Egyptian Government feel itself bound by any decision the International court handed down?

It's easy to say "Our Government should do this or our Government should do that, but we are dealing with an Egyptian PM who came to power through a military coup and cannot afford to be seen as bowing to pressure, Threats and sanctions might make us feel better but they are not going to help Peter Greste. What is needed is diplomacy, concilliation and even a little bit of grovelling, if that's what it takes - however unpalatable that may be..

Not necessarily but I think that the Human Rights Commission would be the way to go. Unfortunately, this government of ours has distanced itself from that....
