The story behind this little guy
When my Mum was young, she really wanted to learn how to crochet. Even though my Grandmother (her Mum) taught crocheting at the local school, she refused to teach my mum because my Mum was left handed.
My Aunt (my Mumโs younger sister) taught my mum to crochet. When my Mum started work at 16, she bought this little donkey from her first pay check as a thank you to my Aunt. My Aunt was only 11 at that time. It was 1953.
My Aunt told me that one day while she was out and my Mum was cleaning, my Mum accidently knocked over the donkey and itโs head broke off. My Mum glued it back together but itโs very obvious. My Aunt never let on that she knew it had broken.
When my Mum passed (exactly 3 years ago today), my Aunt gave it to me. I never knew it existed before then.

That is amazing. My nan had a donkey just like this, with an almost identical break which happened when my birth mother knocked it over while ironing her hair

Got heaps packed away, just don't have any pics of them.
My father had these made into cufflinks in Japan. They are from a samurai sword (1603-1868).
