Paris manhunt: 3 gunmen at large, 12 shot dead at Charlie Hebdo offices

No terrorist group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack. However, an Islamic State militant praised the attack on the French satirical magazine on Wednesday.

"The lions of Islam have avenged our Prophet," Abu Mussab, who fights for IS insurgents in Syria, told Reuters via internet connection. "These are our lions. It's the first drops – more will follow," he said, speaking via an internet connection from Syria. He added that he and his fellow fighters are happy about the incident.

Mussab said he did not know the gunmen who carried out the attack, but added "they are on the path of the emir [IS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi]....and our Sheikh Osama (bin Laden)."

Reports suggest that the cartoons portraying Prophet Mohammed published earlier by the satirical paper were the reason for the attack. The gunmen reportedly called out the victims by name, shouting: “We have avenged the prophet."

The religion of peace at it again.

It's a shame the police officer didn't have a weapon, and in turn able to defend himself.   :smileysad:

you will need to watch the video to see

how it all unfolded.  the police officer

was already injured. the police car was

shot at.  i dont think he had much of a chance

against a couple of kalashnikovs.

It's a possibility I suppose but sometimes they actually leave stuff behind. Didn't that happen some time ago? a sim card?

Yes, in the Glasgow airport attack.  The sim card had previously been owned by Haneef, and that all led to the disgraceful treatment of Haneef in Australia.

Working Visa cancelled by Kevin Andrews (currently Minister of Defence in Abbott Govt)

2008 -

Dr Haneef was arrested last July in connection with terrorist attacks in Britain. When he was granted bail, Mr Andrews revoked his visa, citing secret information supplied by the Australian Federal Police.

This ensured Dr Haneef's continued incarceration until the case collapsed.

THE Government has threatened to upgrade a judicial inquiry established to investigate the Haneef affair to a full royal commission if former immigration minister Kevin Andrews refuses to co-operate fully.

Mr Andrews said yesterday that he would meet with and help the inquiry, but stopped short of committing himself to giving evidence in public.

"That will depend on the circumstances at the time," he said.

Attorney-General Robert McClelland announced that the inquiry — to be headed by former NSW supreme court judge John Clarke, QC — would investigate the controversial detention last year of Dr Mohamed Haneef and the cancellation of his Australian visa.

Shadow attorney-general George Brandis described the inquiry as a stunt, saying that Labor had access to the information it needed, now that it was in government. "This is an inappropriate politicisation of what should be an apolitical matter," he said. "This is a matter of national security."

Isn't it awful that we forget so easily the depths of these assaults on our citizens.

Is it true that this case is not yet over?  In regards to compensation?

Just read that compensation has been awarded.  Dr Haneef was going to return to India. If he has, he would be glad to be rid of us.

Well besides the real reason of dominating and taking over why else would they want to come here.

I wanted to come here when I immigrated - does it follow I must have had a secret ambition to dominate and take over? I was a practising Catholic at the time, too, - so did I want to force everyone into Catholicism and enslave them to the Pope?

Yes, and now the same man (Brandis) has given ASIO stronger powers to do similar.Woman Frustrated

Apparently, one of them has handed himself in but I don't know if it was one of the brothers.

A poster back a bit said they found an ID card in the car.    It could be that he left his own card behind or it could be that someone else did the crime and left this ID behind to set up a fall guy.  Either way, the truth may or may not be revealed.

Paris manhunt: 3 gunmen at large, 12 shot dead at Charlie Hebdo offices

Dec 2010

Dr Haneef is currently working as a doctor in the United Arab Emirates but wanted to resume his training and eventually work as a specialist physician in Australia.

On Friday, he told a press conference a litany of errors by the Australian Federal Police and the Federal Government had stained his reputation and career prospects.

And he said his treatment has damaged Australia's reputation for fair play.

"My career and reputation continues to suffer as a result of the events which occurred in 2007," he said.

"I have taken steps to rebuild my life and my medical career. However, I regret missing out on the opportunity to continue my studies and my career to become a specialist doctor in Australia, as I had planned earlier.

"My wrongful arrest and detention in 2007 was a traumatic experience for me and my family. It has impacted on all areas of my life."

"It is a fair place but recently because of certain episodes, this reputation has been damaged, especially in India, and I hope that by resolving my matter it will help repair the damage."

Showing my ignorance here but dont french police carry guns? Even when responding to this type of event?

Thats just wrong if thats the case.

My understanding is that French law enforcement can carry a weapon...or not, up to them.    Apparently in this case, he did not have a weapon.  And, in turn had to raise up his hands in surrender only to be shot in the head.

I'm so naive to believe that this officer may be alive today if he could have stopped this terrorist in this tracks, instead of begging for his life.

Why would we expect law enforcement to beg for their life?

It was a sim card for a mobile phone  that Haneef hadpassed on  to his 2nd cousin some time ealier when he left England to come to Australia. It was not used to trigger the bomb and his 2nd cousin was not involved in the attack but apparently had some connection with the man who was responsible (I think he may have shared a flat with the bomber and the sim card was found in the flat.)
