Pension changes proposed.

The Productivity Commission has suggested that the pension age be lifted to 70.

Also that those pensioners who own their own home have an "equity release" applied (basically a reverse mortgage)  and paid to the govt.   Hope it doesn't happen!!

37? I have grandchildren that age and none of them would talk in such a way to me or any older person. They know much about our family history.

Just shows how immature and ignorant some 37yo can be.

Those sitting on high horses have a long way to fall.

Recalling some of that poster's other threads/posts, I'd say that's a very accurate description, Lyndal Smiley Wink

The plan is to just wait for mummy and daddy to fall off the perch.

Re: Pension changes proposed.

People worked (or not)...just like now.

Just like now everyone regardless of a persons age each have their own story.

..then they knew/believed that contributions made via tax was part of planning for their future.

Re: Pension changes proposed.

Now the  Gratton Institute is suggesting the value of the family home be taken in to working out how much pension you will get, and also to put Capital Gains Tax on the sale of the family home.   Geez.   Surely there are other areas they can investigate, and LAY OFF PENSIONERS!

I was listening to that discussion on radio this morning too Gill. Their suggesion that MOST people's family homes aren't worth more than &500K is just ridiculous

Why?  That seems to be the mindset of the 37yo.

Apart from that person, there are many people in our society whose retirement plan is just that.  Some of them don't even wait for that to happen, they set about separating the money from their parents beforehand.
