People who do not vaccinate will lose $

From January 2016 parents who do not vaccinate their kids will lose up to $15 000 in allowances/concessions, except in cases of medical  and some religious reasons.

You still have not answered my question.

Is your mother, father, grandmother, grandfather, child or you having influenza vaccine this month?

If you had an elderly relative or immune compromised child or relative, would you deny them this vaccine?

To Monman; Thanks for that.  I was much happier in this discussion before all the autism stuff came up (I may have initiated it when I posted about how so many parents have the same story after their babies have had the 18 month shots.)  But I never said it was the MMR or thimerisol nor have I referenced Wakefield in any of my posts.  So now we can talk about some other more "proven" and compensable reactions to vaccines in general perhaps.

To Polks; Even though I find that a most personal question and is absolutely none of your business.  My answer is no, never have had a flu shot never will.  Here are the warnings from the insert of afluria:

Administration of CSL’s 2010 Southern Hemisphere influenza vaccine
was associated with increased rates of fever and febrile seizures in
children predominantly below the age of 5 years as compared to previous
years. Febrile events were also observed in children 5 through 8 years of
age. (5.1)
• If Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) has occurred within 6 weeks of
previous influenza vaccination, the decision to give AFLURIA should be
based on careful consideration of the potential benefits and risks. (5.2)
• Appropriate medical treatment and supervision must be available to
manage possible anaphylactic reactions following administration of the
vaccine. (5.3)
• Immunocompromised persons may have a diminished immune response
to AFLURIA.

According to the CDC website;

  • GBS within 6 weeks following a previous dose of influenza vaccine is considered a precaution for use of all influenza vaccines.
  • People who care for severely immunocompromised persons who require a protective environment (or otherwise avoid contact with those persons for 7 days after getting the nasal spray vaccine).

BUT the main reason I wont have a flu shot is because every single person I know apart from 1has ended up with "flu like symptoms" within a few hours to a week after having the shot.  They were all seemingly healthy before the shot and subsequently sick for a couple of weeks after.  Most of whom now dont get the shot anymore.

Now you know someone who has not ever had reaction to flu shot, and I have been getting them for 20 years now, skipping only 1 year and that was the year I did get sick.

I'd never had the flu and never had a flu shot because I could not see the need.  I had no idea what the flu was like, until I got it.  OMG, I had no idea how bad it was until then.  I've had a couple of flu shots since.  If I did get a reaction it could never be as bad as the flu.  I've had plenty of colds over the years but never had a diagnosed flu before.  It was horrid.

SHW your statements underwrite my suggestions that you research professional respected medical authorities, which you obviously have not,  I respect your (unresearched)   decision to forgo vaccine protection, but in your attempts to  spread your medically unsupported stance , you are deliberately  posting  information that is open to challenge e.g.

"..........Administration of CSL’s 2010 Southern Hemisphere influenza vaccine
was associated with increased rates of fever and febrile seizures in
children predominantly below the age of 5 years .........."

True, but why not include these:

Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) Statement

Use of bioCSL Fluvax® and other influenza vaccine brands in children
Since late 2010, bioCSL Fluvax® has not been registered for use in children aged less than 5 years

Use of bioCSL Fluvax® and other influenza vaccine brands in children
Since late 2010, bioCSL Fluvax® has not been registered for use in children aged less than 5 years because it causes unacceptably high rates of adverse events, specifically fevers and febrile convulsions, in children of this age.7

"BUT the main reason I wont have a flu shot is because every single person I know apart from 1has ended up with "flu like symptoms" within a few hours to a week after having the shot."

I suggest you research the clinical mechanics of reactions to a vaccine, try a good MEDICAL source.

Australian Department of Health:

"Vaccines, like other medicines, can have side effects, however the majority of side effects are minor.

Common side effects following flu vaccination include soreness, redness, pain and swelling at the injection site, fever and malaise. These side effects are usually mild and resolve within a few days, usually without any treatment. You should contact your doctor if you are concerned or your child has a persistent high temperature.

Thanks again Monman, I am so happy to hear that. I just posted the insert because I found it on the CDC website.  I dont think the only respected or "good" medical authorities are the ones you have mentioned. They are just the ones with the most money... Do you deny the report on vaccine injury released by the department of justice? There are plenty of cases where gullian barre syndrome was the result of the flu vaccine reaction.

So, most definately while the reactions are generally minor, some can be as severe as gullian barre syndrome.

Why is it personal to speak about your elderly gramdmother and influenza vaccine and it is not personal for you to speak about your children?

In most years, minor or major epidemics of type A or type B influenza occur, usually during the winter months in temperate regions. In Australia, although an average of 85 deaths and approximately 4000 hospitalisations directly attributed to influenza are notified annually, it has long been recognised that this is a substantial underestimate of the impact of influenza. It is estimated that there are an average of over 13 500 hospitalisations due to influenza per year in Australia and over 3000 deaths per year in Australians aged over 50 years alone.

What about people who get a seasonal flu vaccine and still get sick with flu-like symptoms?

There are several reasons why someone might get a flu-like illness, even after they have been vaccinated against flu.

  1. One reason is that some people can become ill from other respiratory viruses besides flu such as rhinoviruses, which are associated with the common cold, cause symptoms similar to flu, and also spread and cause illness during the flu season. The flu vaccine only protects against influenza viruses, not other viruses.
  2. Another explanation is that it is possible to be exposed to influenza viruses, which cause the flu, shortly before getting vaccinated or during the two-week period after vaccination that it takes the body to develop immune protection. This exposure may result in a person becoming ill with flu before protection from the vaccine takes effect.
  3. A third reason why some people may experience flu like symptoms despite getting vaccinated is that they may have been exposed to a flu virus that is very different from the viruses the vaccine is designed to protect against. The ability of a flu vaccine to protect a person depends largely on the similarity or “match” between the viruses selected to make the vaccine and those spreading and causing illness. There are many different flu viruses that spread and cause illness among people. For more information,
  4. The final explanation for experiencing flu-like symptoms after vaccination is that unfortunately, the flu vaccine doesn't always provide adequate protection against the flu. This is more likely to occur among people that have weakened immune systems or people age 65 and older.

I have never had any reaction either, and I have never had a cold since I began having the vaccinations.

NB.  Don't get the shot before the 20th, because that is the date that the new vaccines are available.  Each year more types of anti-influenza are added.

I've tried to stay as impartial as I can possibly be.  It's nobodies business whether I or my nan have been vaccinated.  What is this thread? a national inquiry into my families vaccination status? I'm giving my personal opinion I shouldn't have to divulge any more than that.

Can I just say the CDC and major medical and health sites are not the only authority on vaccinations. The CDC have been involved in their fair share of controversies. As have all these big organisations.

What is it you dont understand about the fact that people have been able to prove that the flu shot made them very, very sick. and have been compensated accordingly by the program.

Why do you so vehemently promote a vaccine that is well known to cause harm to some people? And a vaccine that is not even necessarily going to protect you against the flu (or whatever flu is about at the time)
