Peter Slipper avoids jail and is put on two-year bond

I can't believe the difference between this ($925) and the other politicians who didn't face court over larger amounts. Slipper's ex wife has a lot to say about it.

It pretty much destroyed his life.  Where is the justice?  I am glad he is not going to jail.

I am glad he didn't get a prison sentence also.

So much for the other posters who were sure he was going to go to prison.

There are people who have done far worse than that (white collar crimes) and they didn't get prison sentences.

On reading your article Az I am surprised to find that he committed the crime of misappropriating the $900 when he he was a liberal party member. I had no idea of that, I thought it must've been more recently, like when he was speaker

The case cost taxpayers 3 million dollars!

However his ex-wife Lyn lashed out at the proceedings.

“This has been a travesty of justice from the moment it commenced,” she said. “This has been a personal political vendetta instigated by Tony Abbott who saw Peter as standing between him and his lust for The Lodge. No more, no less.”

Well......when the other has been thwarted.......

Yes, that surprised me too....... I do think that every politician who has misappropriated funds should now be taken to court and have the same penalty............... why is he special?

I agree Az, I hope that when we have a change of govt in a couple of years, that they go through the books very thoroughly and catch this current mob out big time
