Joono, the photo is of a Galileo thermometer. It still functions, but has a very narrow temperature range, hence all the bulbs at the bottom (It would have been cool to have a couple of them floating).

Thanks Fayekinnitt. I really like them. I'll see if I can find one for myself. Even if they don't work properly they are quite ornamental.
