Malaysia Airlines says one of its planes has gone missing on the way from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 239 people on board.
A statement from the airline says flight MH370 lost contact with air traffic controllers at 2:40am local time, just over two hours into the flight.
The plane, a Boeing 777-200, left Kuala Lumpur at 12:41am on Saturday, and had been due to arrive in Beijing at 6:30am local time.
The company says the plane was carrying 227 passengers, including two infants, and 12 crew members.
The airline says it is contacting the next-of-kin of all passengers and crew, which includes people of 13 different nationalities.
In a statement on the airline's website, group chief executive officer Ahmad Jauhari Yahya said the airline was working with authorities to locate the aircraft.
"Focus of the airline is to work with the emergency responders and authorities and mobilise its full support," the statement said.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with all affected passengers and crew and their family members."
The airline says it will provide regular updates on its website.
The ABC understand Malaysia Airlines will hold a press conference on the incident shortly.

its a fairly pointless discussion anyway. i wonder what it is that leads people to have theories without any hard information. i'm doing the old fashioned wait and see what transpired before commenting on what might have happened.

I don't believe much of what I read, in the media especially and same regards online discussions/threads as there are a sprinkling of interferers with meddling agendas at large
quite obviously a typo? and probably not good forum etiquette, anymore, to be heaping derision on a poster for either poor spelling/grammer or typos?

was wondering when you would 'pop up' monman....and ya 'mates' az etc!!!!!!
......seems like the 'media' are now posting stories suggesting that the crew/pilots had behaviour problems, psychological problems etc.
Wow. Anything other than investigating the possibility that there may have been either an electronic or mechanical or structural problem with the machinery involved hey?......or that the airline has some blame in all this?

not in reply to chuk
As monman said this thread is about a terrible tragedy.. not about who believes in what and making personal jibes at those that disagree with you.

Won't there be some rejoicing if it turns out the plane was landed on some remote patch of land and there are survivors, as unlikely as that appears at this stage.

I think the fact that there is no information whatsoever, leads to speculation............... 4 of the passengers are reasonably local to me and I see their family members asking and waiting for answers.................... none of us have a clue. So, I don't think it's an unreasonable thing to speculate.
