Malaysia Airlines says one of its planes has gone missing on the way from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 239 people on board.

A statement from the airline says flight MH370 lost contact with air traffic controllers at 2:40am local time, just over two hours into the flight.

The plane, a Boeing 777-200, left Kuala Lumpur at 12:41am on Saturday, and had been due to arrive in Beijing at 6:30am local time.

The company says the plane was carrying 227 passengers, including two infants, and 12 crew members.

The airline says it is contacting the next-of-kin of all passengers and crew, which includes people of 13 different nationalities.

In a statement on the airline's website, group chief executive officer Ahmad Jauhari Yahya said the airline was working with authorities to locate the aircraft.

"Focus of the airline is to work with the emergency responders and authorities and mobilise its full support," the statement said.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with all affected passengers and crew and their family members."

The airline says it will provide regular updates on its website.

The ABC understand Malaysia Airlines will hold a press conference on the incident shortly.

This mornings news says they have searched the pilot's home? I wonder where they think he is hiding it?

The first is a forum (a forum lol!!!) full of speculation by people purporting to be 'experts' but of course have no connection to the incident or the investigation, the second is a  blog that has disappeared, and the third is satellite imaging site that challenges the armchair 'expert' to play the game "spot the debris" as if the REAL experts don't have access to equipment that is thousands of times more effective and useful. * rolls eyes *

It seems to me that this thread was started with the intention of offering empathy in what appears to be an horrendous accident. No one is interested in unfounded speculation, pointless games or information gleaned for conspiracy theorist websites or opinions from other forums.

Give it up or take it to another thread please.

You're not questioning. You're stating as fact that the plane was shot down and there's a cover up.

You, just like the rest of us here do not have any facts apart from the fact the plane is missing. 

The passengers are all someone's family.  

If they stumble across this thread I'd prefer they find some sympathy rather than a flood of conspiracy theories.  

You've started a conspiracy theory thread so please keep your conspiracy theories in it.

i am pretty sure the famalies are well aware of all the conspiracy theories being thrown around

going by the title of the thread and the OP this is a good a place as any.
