Malaysia Airlines says one of its planes has gone missing on the way from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 239 people on board.
A statement from the airline says flight MH370 lost contact with air traffic controllers at 2:40am local time, just over two hours into the flight.
The plane, a Boeing 777-200, left Kuala Lumpur at 12:41am on Saturday, and had been due to arrive in Beijing at 6:30am local time.
The company says the plane was carrying 227 passengers, including two infants, and 12 crew members.
The airline says it is contacting the next-of-kin of all passengers and crew, which includes people of 13 different nationalities.
In a statement on the airline's website, group chief executive officer Ahmad Jauhari Yahya said the airline was working with authorities to locate the aircraft.
"Focus of the airline is to work with the emergency responders and authorities and mobilise its full support," the statement said.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with all affected passengers and crew and their family members."
The airline says it will provide regular updates on its website.
The ABC understand Malaysia Airlines will hold a press conference on the incident shortly.

Update:
Another Sighting Of Debris in the South Indian Ocean
A plane flying over the Indian Ocean search area has sighted objects that may relate to the search for MH370, Prime Minister Tony Abbott says.
“Over the last 24 hours there have been three significant developments - new satellite imagery, new Chinese satellite imagery, does seem to suggest at least one large object down there, consistent with the object that earlier satellite imagery discovered which I told the Australian Parliament about last week," he said.
“Yesterday one of our civilian aircraft got visuals on a number of objects in a fairly small areas in the overall Australian search zone.” In a statement issued overnight, the Australian Maritime Safety Authority said a civil aircraft had reported sighting a number of small objects with the naked eye, including a wooden pallet, within a radius of five kilometres.

We so badly want that plane to be found.

love*today: So I heard that spy satellites can pick this up but no-one wants to share what their equipment can do with the world.

Seems like it.
.....now the French have 'seen' satellite images of 'something'
Must be pointed out that the area which is being searched in the Southern Ocean is known as 'a dustbin' for stuff.
The southern corridor is being searched.
The northern corridor is being searched.....why not the Eastern corridor?
Diego Garcia is/was reachable. A UK leased island property established and run by the US Military.
Maldive residents sighted a low flying passenger jet, with same colour and markings as a Malaysian 777, around 6am morning MH370 went off civilian radar, flying over their heads, in a south westerly direction-towards the same locale as Diego Garcia.
The airport runway of Diego Garcia is among the top five locations the investigative team discovered on the simulator programme in Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah’sresidence in Shah Alamlast Saturday, as reported by Berita Harian.
Funny how mainstream media will not mention Diego Garcia....yet it is all over the internet?

correction.....Why not search the Western corridor- not the eastern corridor-*DOH!

Why not give it a rest P007.
"Funny how mainstream media will not mention Diego Garcia...." Funny that the following online media mention Diego Garcia, do they qualify as mainstream P007?
ABC news network
Daily Mail UK
News.com
Telegraph UK
The Economist
The Guardian
Malaysian Chronicle
Why exactly P007 do you think (as you have stated) that it would be so easy to find a ULB?

....electronic hijacking.
Once the plane flew far enough West, Awacs was obviously enough to jam both civilian and military radars, probably because they entered a zone where the angle of both incoming signals allowed for their simultaneous cancellation. That is where the plane finally "vanished" forever, an hour after the "official" vanishing act.
The final vanish happened while at 29,500 feet...."

Jammed by who? Aliens? Terrorists? The FBI? The CIA? The Mafia? You keep dropping these cryptic hints, but you never tell us what it is you actually believe. Do you even know what you believe?

There are very, very few reasons for a modern plane to suddenly disappear.

well, if electronic hijacking was carried out and communication signals electronically jammed-one thing I don't believe is that a blessing of unicorns is responsible.
