Malaysia Airlines says one of its planes has gone missing on the way from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 239 people on board.
A statement from the airline says flight MH370 lost contact with air traffic controllers at 2:40am local time, just over two hours into the flight.
The plane, a Boeing 777-200, left Kuala Lumpur at 12:41am on Saturday, and had been due to arrive in Beijing at 6:30am local time.
The company says the plane was carrying 227 passengers, including two infants, and 12 crew members.
The airline says it is contacting the next-of-kin of all passengers and crew, which includes people of 13 different nationalities.
In a statement on the airline's website, group chief executive officer Ahmad Jauhari Yahya said the airline was working with authorities to locate the aircraft.
"Focus of the airline is to work with the emergency responders and authorities and mobilise its full support," the statement said.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with all affected passengers and crew and their family members."
The airline says it will provide regular updates on its website.
The ABC understand Malaysia Airlines will hold a press conference on the incident shortly.

Persons? I hope that's not referring to me....or I hope that's not how my last post came across as. If it is....my entire point was that no one needs to learn about radar systems and aeronautics to have a conversation about what they think happened. All the cerfications in the world won't help a person guess what happened.
If you weren't....Good morning!
I only hope they are being held somewhere as opposed to sitting at the bottom of the ocean.
(edit: forgot the "not" in line 1....BIG difference. 🙂 )
(and the "one" in line 2....and the "au" in aeronautics.....it's early! )

I go with the depressurised theory they lost conciousness and flew on til the plane ran out of fuel and dropped in the ocean.

If that did happened, I guess that's better than the thought of all those people realising they ran out of fuel and are about to crash in the ocean.
But why would anyone go through so much trouble just to crash it?

Well at least P007's posts are no more or less Alice in wonderland than some of the stuff that has been coming from so claimed a combination of ignoranceeminent persons on this subject..
C04, the difference is that published speculation(s) are mainly from the media, and are based upon a combination of a little knowledge, a lot of ignorance, and the need for headlines/circulation. Whereas P007 has no knowledge, apropos this topic, other than what is presented elsewhere, and being unable to grasp the technical/aviation details substitutes various conspiracies to answer for the lack of knowledge.
I think it best summed up with:
"Many believe in medical conspiracies, for instance, because the conspiracy is often far easier to believe than the complexities of the medical process itself" e.g.
The truth is not being told. Lies and stories, This is a fairy story.
LL wisely posts: "i think those concerned have little or no idea . how difficult is it to simply say ''we have no idea where the plane is''"
Conspiracists have great difficulty accepting (understanding) that, and so will dream up a substitute solution however nonsensical, and completely changeable to fit the circumstances of the moment.
P007, why do you think it is so easy to locate a ULB? (if it has not been vapourised by the FBI)

So what do you think of the alien abduction theory, MM? It seems to have as much validity as any of those others mentioned here.
