ok. back to the topic.
Platypi have been on the endangered species for quite some time. The busfires can only have execerbated their vulnerability.
I just hope CSIRO or some other like-minded organisation has their genetic material in their gene banks.

I'm susprised at your concern, Icy. An egg laying marsupial with the beak of a duck, the tail of a beaver, and the flippers of a turtle - could anything possibly be more 'against nature?

You don't say! And there was I thinking it was due to drought and human activity such as damming and water harvesting, threats from feral species in national parks, and the impacts of livestock. (As per the OP's link)
