Please find another time for Protest

If you're fighting to protect people's lives, why not start by not risking the innocent lives of everyone elses. Find another time. I will have more respect for you. I was just saying the other day: Thank God that Australians aren't as crazy as Americans and we have at least some common sense not to choose this time to protest.

The blacks are clearly discriminated and treated poorly in society. They need to start treating themselves and each other better for things to get better.

With what you said above, it's something that can be easily said about any community. It's actually an inapplicable thing to say. Many African Americans hard,  want to do good things in their own community and further afield. Their resources are severely limited and in many cases, non-existent! The system is to blame for this. On an official level, a blind eye has been turned to the narcotics situation in the African American community's and we're talking about on an official level. It's up to you if you want to do the research. The disproportionate incarceration of African American men means many young African American boys grow up without a male role model. When non-African American men are convicted of an offence, the same offence committed by an African American, guess who is more likely to be jailed?

Ummm, 200 years to do it, and they choose now when there's a pandemic. I call BS. It had to be done? What are we the US?

I totally disagree with you. The 200 years you mention have been filled with pleas to be given what Johnny Cash referred to as "A fair shake". This hasn't happened. The public throat crushing execution of George Floyd is that straw that's broken the camel's back. Strike while the iron is hot is what's happening. Totally predictable reaction and totally understandable.

OK, the_bob_delusion, I apologise if I'm wrong but I think I see within you a failure  to understand and fully grasp what's going on here. While I wouldn't use the term genocide, I would say that what has been taking place in  the last 200 years you mentioned is the deliberate denial of the right for African Americans as a whole to thrive and live as equals.

A good book to read even though it's somewhat dated is Black LIke Me by John Howard Griffin . A nice little account of what the book is about is here!

Corona virus easily affects more people 7 millions so far plus everyone around them that's associated with them so 7.5billion I'm guessing. Want me to quote the people killed by the corona virus vs those people killed by the police? Your comment makes no sense to me. The protest in Australia achieved nothing except for delaying easing of restriction and showing the protestor as reckless and inconsiderate.

Yes, precautions must be taken with Corona virus. The statistics go from being not as lethal as the flu to being more lethal.

The flu has killed far more people than coronavirus. So why all the frenzy about COVID-19?

Coroner: New Orleans 39-year-old, once feared to be coronavirus victim, died of heart condition

A 30-year-old Queensland man who authorities believed died with coronavirus may not have been infected at all.

Some cases that have been recorded as deaths by Corona are actually not deaths as such. People who have died with Corona but have died because of other reasons have had their deaths recorded as having died from Corona. The statistics are inaccurate at times. In saying this, I believe that precautions are necessary and I support the border closures. I also believe in the encouragement of good nutrition, taking vitamins and hygiene.

Corona virus is something to take seriously and be aware of. But shops, transport, supplies, services can't be shut down because of it. And neither can the protest about the ill and brutal treatment of African Americans be. Here we have the latest being a public execution shown worldwide with a law enforcement officer crushing a shackled man's neck. This is an image that would cause a major outcry if it was shown with a dog instead of a human being.  So what do you think the reaction should be when a human being is there instead of a dog?

Ok. So why hasn't it been posted? Or acknowledged so far?

It does not excuse an execution style arrest - ending in murder.

I noticed during the recent BLM protests in Australia that an Aboriginal woman made comment on Captain Cook placing his dirty foot on Australian soil. Now Aboriginal activists are calling for statues of Captain Cook to be toppled around the country. They are already raising the need to do away with Australia Day (Invasion Day).

I understand why they are hurt, angry and have such hate. But this is just the beginning and I hope people who support these actions realise what further demands for rights and treatment are ahead. Clearly the divisions in Australia are not going to go away soon, but activists leading the way is unlikely to achieve a resolution. Perhaps the four Labor MPs and Greens Senator who took part in the BLM protests can convince the Government to listen to the messages and take responsible action to try and correct the inequality.

I hope the people who are making these comments aren't putting their hands out for welfare payments from we DIRTY white tax payers. I wouldnt want them to handle my DIRTY  money without first sanitising their CLEAN hands
