Police shoot man during attempted arrest after deadly stabbing spree across Melbourne's east
good to see police use deadly force on someone who needed it
not some mentally challenged person who just needed calming down.
still, he killed several people before police opened fire.

Some people just do not know when to give up . So now the public are left with the rehabilitation of dozens of direct and indirect victims .

David, the police rarely shoot in haste. It is an offence for them even to draw a weapon unless they have due cause, they would be in trouble.
I think a big problem over the last few years is police have been slow to intervene to stop some violent offenders. It's been softly, softly and the result is quite a lot of people expect to be given chance after chance after chance.
This particular offender though may have wanted to be shot, he was going the right way about it. Off his head, maybe drugs, who knows.

There is a line drawn in the sand of understanding and acceptable behaviour - if one's behaviour crosses that line one can expect apprehesion, severe consequences and little support

Now the Killer's peer group must be investigated and evaluated as to whether they be a threat to society or themselves and a rehabilitation plan instigated if required, but once again there be that line in the sand ....

I was going to make a quip about living in a small rural town for long enough to absorb some of the attitudes relating to invasive group peer accountabilty in context to one of my replies that advocated an intervention case opened on any associates of the killer , but thought better of that ( at the time )
